O Jorge: The Hidden Gem Redefining “Snack Bar”
Don’t let the humble “snack bar” title fool you—O Jorge is anything but ordinary. This is a well-run and presented restaurant that’s quietly redefining what casual dining should be. From the immaculate uniforms of the staff to the high-quality glassware and cutlery, every detail has been thoughtfully considered.
We came for the Piri Piri chicken, and it turned out to be a life-changing culinary experience. It’s no exaggeration to say this was the best chicken we’ve ever eaten. The meat was perfectly moist, the skin was crispy and beautifully spiced, and the flavors were nothing short of spectacular. Unlike other places that rely on heavy marinades, O Jorge’s chicken is cooked over coals and basted with the owner’s secret recipe. It’s a revelation, and as Brits who’ve had our fair share of Piri Piri from a well-known chain, this puts it to absolute shame.
As if that wasn’t enough, we also discovered their secret pork dish, which was equally amazing. Tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection.
The wine list is another pleasant surprise. The most expensive bottle was just €12.50, yet the quality was outstanding. Paired with the food, it elevated the meal even further. The value here is simply unbeatable. With ten of us dining—including three bottles of wine—the bill came to under €150. It’s rare to find such incredible food and wine at such reasonable prices.
If we had one regret, it was not ordering a whole chicken each rather than just a half. The flavors were so irresistible we were already planning our return before we’d even finished the meal.
O Jorge is more than a snack bar—it’s a hidden gem delivering an experience that’s miles ahead of many other dining establishments. If you’re in the area, don’t miss it. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a happy heart, and a newfound respect for the art...
Read moreYou need to get the takeaway which is next door to the restaurant !! Hands down the best chicken on the Algarve. I’ve seen a lot of people moan about the size of the chickens, remember they are spatchcock chickens. And also get the rice to takeaway to. I’ve dined inside the restaurant & I admit the plate size wasn’t half as big as the take out for some reason. The black pork take out is also very, very good !! I’ve seen a lot of comments about it being a dump at the back of the supermarket, it’s just a take out guys don’t worry about the surrounding area. And also the takeout is packed with locals, so you know if the locals are queuing around the block for the food you know it’s good. For 2 days I smelt this bbq food smell & was on my bike & yeah it is in a strange place at the back of dolce pingo, on the 3rd day I found chicken heaven !!! I got 2 whole chickens & a large rice to myself. And the price point was unreal for the amount of food you get. The lady who serves is one of the nicest people I’ve met on the Algarve she was lovely & even the chef who turns the chicken over on the hot coals is a very funny guy, I first found this place in 2016 & eaten there more than 30+ times over the years. You do have to wait a little bit, about 15 mins usually but there’s a bench right outside just sit there & enjoy the sun while you wait. Or if you go of an evening when it gets busy with locals just pop into the restaurant & order a beer or whatever. I don’t ever use hotels on the Algarve no more, I use AirBnb’s as one they are much cheaper than hotels & 2 it’s home from home with all the amenities!! So this is why I get so many PiriPiri chickens & rice from O’Jorges. I’ve eaten all over the Algarve & the chicken here as never, ever let me down !! I’ve even drove over 15 miles away when we stopped further on...
Read moreOne of the few hidden treasures in albufeira, mostly full of locals instead of tourists, this unassuming gem is one of the best places to eat in town.
It’s in/out the back of pingo dolce by the watches roundabout, don’t be put of by the canopy entrance out the back, walk in and the wonderful waiter will escort you the few steps to the main restaurant.
The food here is outstanding, joint first piri piri chicken in albufeira with o manel dos frangos, none of that Nando’s sauce rubbish, real piri piri oil on bbq’d chicken chopped into pieces, if eating with your fingers and you’re not afraid of picking the chicken off the bone, you’ll love it.
The black pork chops(not fillet) is quite simply some of the best tasting meat I’ve eaten on the planet, absolutely divine.
Half a litre of fabulous red wine...3...
