2 Duques - Prato do dia — Restaurant in Aveiro

We visited Aveiro after recommendation of our Lisbon's guide on the way to Porto and found this restaurant by accident since it was close to our car parking. We have been in Portugal for 4 days and it was our first REAL home cooking meal. We ordered cod cutlets, chicken with rice and mackerel fish dishes. First of all, portions are huge, so take 1/2 portion since it is an option. For 2 people, one portion is more than enough. Second of all, even though portions are big, the food is VERY DELICIOUS. It is really a home cooking meal. We finished with coffee cake and roasted apple. Both deserts have been to die for. Lastly, owner is so great and accomodating. We came around 2:50 pm and he still let us through even though siesta was about to start and his stuff was already eating and ready to leave. Fantastic food, probably the best we had in 3 weeks in Portugal. Huge portions, so order with that in mind. Excellent dinner. The fish was amazing and cheap. For two fish dinners, regualar Portugese starters, and a half bottle of wine the whole meal was €27. Even though they didn’t speak English, the service was fantastic, and we were able to order. The fish was so fresh, you can hear them grilling it right there.
