I recently had the pleasure of dining at Bougain, a unique and charming restaurant with a botanical environment. I went with a group of friends and we all agreed that the experience was exceptional. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were transported to a magical and exotic world.

The decor at Bougain was simply stunning. The walls were covered with lush green foliage and beautiful forest motives, giving the restaurant a truly authentic natural feel. The lighting was also perfect, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that was both cozy and intimate.

The service at Bougain were friendly, welcoming and very attentive. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and was happy to recommend dishes based on our preferences. They made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening, and even took the time to chat with us and share his knowledge about the restaurant's theme. Furthermore, we also had the pleasure of being introduced to Mr. Garcia, the owner, and had the opportunity to have his personal vision on the restaurant.

Now let's talk about the food: it was simply amazing. The great classics are back and this place executes it in perfection. We started with the oysters, carpaccion and beetroot salad which was rich and full of flavor. For the main courses, steak tartar, red prawn rice, lamb, duck... everything cooked to perfection.

Overall, I highly recommend Bougain to anyone looking for a unique dining or lunch experience. The ambiance, the wodurful terrace, service and food were all top-notch. It's a restaurant that truly transports you to another world, and I can't wait to...

This is not a review that I like to write.

I stayed at The Pergola hotel and came here for breakfast as part of the stay. It was relatively busy in the morning.

Our server Vitor was quite rude to us throughout our dining experience. No problem, we thought it was just a busy time and it was just him serving. Totally understandable with him having to do all the work.

But then, an older couple came in and he was all smiles. We thought it was cause we were younger patrons and he preferred taking care of older patrons.

But then a younger couple came in and he was also all smiles with them. Apologizing for the wait and everything.

With us, he was rude and short. Almost like he was doing us a favour. Not allowing us time to look at the menu and rushing us to order. Snatching the menu out of my hand right after ordering even when I wanted some more. Not once coming by to ask if there was anything we needed (when he would do the same to others).

At the end of it, it became a little obvious. Given it was busy, then everybody should have the same subpar service. And given that there were old and young patrons, it can’t be an excuse that we were younger and therefore more annoying to serve. The one thing that stood out was that I was Asian.

I usually don’t even think of this as being a problem and don’t like to play the race card. But it seemed to be an issue in this case.

I really hope that’s not the case but given everything that we narrowed down, it became quite clear.

Made a last-minute reservation for my B-day dinner by phone, by the lovely and well educated Fernanda, for an interior table, since the weather was unstable. Once arrived, warmly greeted by Fernanda and since the weather has had positively changed, she gave us the possibility for either outside (with heater and blankets) or cosy inside. We chose the first option. While enjoying the beautifully decorated and intimate garden, we were pleasantly been helped by Eduardo and Gonçalo, which made this fantastic evening even more special. Always available when needed, never too present either. Food wise Bougain Restaurant can level with the very best in Portugal, without a doubt. As the icing on the cake, the restaurant brought us a personalised B-day cake to finish the mesmerising evening.
