4 stars but a must for tourists! The locals eat here, but if you're visiting, you really need to at least see this variety of traditional Portuguese pastries (But seriously, you actually really need to try them - when in Rome...). They're really beautiful and most are unique to this country. You'll always find someone who speaks English behind the counter so don't be afraid to ask for help, or inquire about what something is made of. You don't need to take a number. Just walk up to the counter and look expectantly at the server. I hardly know what to recommend. The first few months here, I brought home a box of minis a couple times a week and just taste-tested them all. My personal favorites are the arroz - pronounced "ah-hoze" (rice) muffin-looking one, the que-que (pronounced "cake") and the filigree cookie. They sell miniature sizes of almost everything so you can try several without feeling too guilty. Once your goodies are boxed up, they'll give you a credit card looking thing which has your total on it. You hand that to the cashier on your right by the door, and she will ring you up.
This Sacholina is located just two blocks from the main Cascais beach. It's open from 8am-8pm daily.
Locals come here for afternoon coffee and a pastry to get them through the long work day ;) Sacholina also makes excellent breads and serves lunch - an array of basic sandwiches, soups, quiche, meat pies, and salads. They're all pretty good, and the coffee or fresh juices are also worth having. It's a Portuguese chain, so the food is predictable (yes, a chain). For some reason, this particular store is my favorite. The food seems consistently fresh and the people seem friendlier. It's got a nicely mixed crowd of locals...
Read moreTerrible experience here. Me and my partner came this town with group tour. Then we had a piece of cake there. When we were paying the bill, the female casher said CASH ONLY. Shocked, we have been travelled in Spain and Portugal for a month. Nerve happened. The bill was 3.7 euro. But I only had 2.5 euro in coins. So we went to the ATM as they told. However, our travel card was not working on the ATM machine. And it's our time to go back the tour bus. We told them we only can pay by card, Or just take 2.5euro. When we tried to leave, the casher And another waitress chased me and grab my phone from my hands and grab my cholthes, two of them. Policemen were nearby, they immediately run to us and separated us. THEN, THEN, the manager came out told policemen they can take card payment. How rediculous. The whole bus tourists waiting for us 20mins just because the shop owner or stuff wanted to save the surcharge or avoid TAX. I really want to know...
Read moreLocated in the heart of Cascais, this Sacolinha offers the quality known for the bakery brand. This specific sacolinha is not very big. It is very interesting because you can enter from and get out of 2 different streets. In our case it was very practical. The service was friendly and kind, even if we took a while to decide what to get with the kids. The quality of the food there is very high and I would recommend it to everyone. On the bathroom door is written that we need to take the keys from the counter, but it is actually open. You just need to push it strongly to open 😅 the toilet was not super clean but I guess kind of ok of such a central bakery in the end of...
