Restaurante Daiya Cocktail & Sushi (Faro) — Restaurant in Faro

Tried the 18 piece chef menu plus a cocktail and had a wonderful night out solo. The restaurant was surprisingly empty and I received good recommendations from attentive staff. The fish was fresh, flavourful, and tender, and the chef’s menu was a great mix of classics and new flavours. The atmosphere was beautiful and outshines the tourist traps nearby. I was not a fan of the Joe on the sample platter (just a mouthful of cream cheese), and felt rushed by staff to leave before I was finished despite there being plenty of open seats and no line.

We’re slightly at a loss at the number of five star reviews. The staff were lovely and attentive but if you are looking for traditional sushi this may not be the place for you The price was extremely high (€99 for two people) and the quality of the fish is definitely not what I consider “sushi grade” The flavours and rolls were “unique” and not traditional. A few worked. A few didn’t.

In summary it was relatively poor quality for the price and the non traditional take on sushi didn’t work a lot...

L’esperienza di sushi migliore che abbiamo avuto fin ora. Abbiamo avuto modo di provare diversi piatti, il sashimi e i nighiri molto buoni, da amanti del pesce crudo abbiamo apprezzato la freschezza del pesce. Il tonno si scioglieva in bocca. La tartare di salmone è stata decisamente la nostra cosa preferita, servita con le chips di gambero ci ha regalato dei sapori meravigliosi. Ci aspettavamo una classica tartare e invece siamo rimasti davvero stupiti dall’originalità e dalla bontà. Lo chef è stato gentilissimo e ci ha fatto arrivare al nostro tavolo anche un piccolo regalo, una buonissima kimuchi di salmone, servita esattamente come la tartare ma ancora più buona! Abbiamo infine preso una combinazione di 18 pezzi chiamata “freestyle do chef” in modo da provare vari roll: tutti buonissimi, dai più semplici a quelli più particolari. Ci siamo divertiti a provare combinazioni nuove e originali. Il ragazzo che ci ha serviti è stato gentilissimo e ospitale, ci ha fatti sentire a nostro agio e ci ha aiutato nelle scelte.
