Had an amazing experience at FX in Funchal last week and just had to share! This place really hits the mark with its traditional Madeiran food. Not only is everything super delicious, but the prices are pretty reasonable too. It’s like getting a taste of Madeira without getting broke.
What really stood out for me, apart from the food, was the atmosphere. The vibe is just incredible, making you feel like you're truly part of the island. Combined with the friendly, quick-to-help staff who really know their stuff when it comes to recommending dishes, it felt super welcoming, almost like being invited to someone’s home for dinner.
In addition to trying their espetada and bolo do caco, I got to taste the fresh tuna, succulent picanha among many other dishes. Every dish was a new adventure in flavor, showcasing the best of Madeiran cuisine. Seriously, if you’re in Funchal and looking for some authentic local cuisine, FX is the place to go.
Honestly, it was so good that I ended up eating there all 5 days I was in Funchal. Every meal was a hit and it just felt like the perfect spot to really dive into Madeira's culinary scene. Can’t wait to go back and try more...
Read moreI visited the restaurant this afternoon with my husband. Unfortunately, after entering the first zone, it turned out that it was very noisy, the music was set at high volume, and the guests sitting there tried to shout over it while talking. So we wanted to sit in the further part of the restaurant to be quiet. and silence to order and eat the meal. Suddenly the waitress appeared and informed us that we couldn't sit there because this part was still closed. I thought ok, we'll eat in the first part and asked to turn down the music because it was very loud. Unfortunately, the waitress wasn't loud enough. polite, she made a face as if my request was from another planet and refused to turn down the music. Not everyone likes to eat meals in an atmosphere of noise and shouting. I do not recommend this place due to the unpolite and incompetent service. This is how you...
Read moreGood location and good for watching sports. Staff were friendly and drinks average prices for Funchal. Would have got a higher mark if the food had been better. I got the traditional onion and tomato soup to start. It tasted nice however I was pulling twigs from herbs out of my mouth constantly. My partner got the limpets to start and found them rubbery an inedible. When he'd had them before they came out sizzling on a pan with garlic butter. These ones came out luke warm on a cold pan and did not taste nice or fresh. The bacon omelette was nice enough and the cheese toastie I had with my soup was fine. I'd say here is a good place for a drink and a snack but I wouldn't go for food as it is quite expensive and there are much nicer...
