The Irish Pub - Sports Bar — Restaurant in Funchal

Was very disappointed with this establishment. Given its name "The Irish Sports Bar," I visited to watch the All Ireland hurling final (Clare v Cork 2024). The game was not on offer, and staff had no idea what it was and were not willing to provide it. There was a rugby union & and an F1 on show, neither of which was being watched. This premises has none of the characteristics associated with an Irish pub, but just using an age-old stereotypical name to lure punters in under false pretences. I suggest dropping the Irish part from the name. It would be a sports bar then, and would get a good rating...

I visited when the Ukraine v England charity game was happening, and no one on the island knew where we could watch it (or that it was even a thing). We found "The Irish Pub Sports Bar" on Maps and headed here - and I'm very glad we did as the game was, indeed, on! Classic Irish small pub, with a good beer selection. The atmosphere was lovely, very clean and modern interiors (unexpected for an irish pub - but I'll take it!), the beer cold, the location is right by the coast and I can recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy a familiar pint by...

Not an Irish sports bar. Wished to watch the Cork v Tipp All-Ireland hurling championship 2025 here. I would assume having “Irish” and “sports” in the name, this wouldn’t be an extraordinary request, however, the bartender was unimpressed at my enquiry and even told me there weren’t any sports playing. Quite the oxymoron. I can’t recommend, however they did answer the phone and so at least I didn’t waste my time/money on the trip. I’d suggest a name change as this is farcical based on the other...
