Whilst this place has lovely views, we were very disappointed with our meal and the service that went alongside it.
Shrimp fajitas is a dish with 8 king prawns served in a sauce, which albeit tasty, was too wet to go inside a wrap. There were only 2 small wraps offered which were not enough for the contents, and I was charged extra for 2 more. The sauces to go with this included a tiny amount of guacamole, sweet chilli and sour cream, again, which I had to ask for more of - the guacamole didn't even taste of anything and was clearly out of a bottle.
The sweet chilli sauce I had to offer to away to my partner who had ordered the chicken espetada. This was overcooked and therefore very dry, and had no flavour at all to it. It didn't come with a sauce and they couldn't offer a sauce to accompany either, other than mayo or ketchup. Thankfully, we had saved bread from our starter to make it a bit more interesting.
The starter I will complement - we had the grilled limpets and they were very nice; they came quickly and with a smile, when we were one of 3 tables seated, which I think is the key issue here.
There were only 3 members of waiting staff, who clearly couldn't cope with 3/4 full restaurant and yet still kept letting more people in. It took around 8 minutes to get someone's attention to ask for more tortilla wraps, and then a further 8 minutes for them to arrive (a bit mad considering they were only microwaved too, and not even warmed on a tortilla pan!)
No-one had asked during our meal if there were any problems, in fact the guy who brought the food was asked about sauces and then didn't even return! We had another long wait for our bill, and when we were asked if everything was okay, we were honest about the chicken, and the response we got was a shrug. They clearly...
Read moreWorst meal, we have been served in Madeira! We are a family of 4 and have visited Madeira several times. We waited an hour for our main meal after drinks and basic starters. We did attempt to leave after enquiring how long the food was taking to arrive, and we wished had done so! The pasta carbonara was like water, no substance to it; the manager said "thats our way of serving." The chicken fajitas were boiled/heated up, not sizzling with very few putrid looking peppers and zero seasoning and served with 2 wraps. The 2 wraps were served in a huge serving dish; not sure why. The grilled chicken breast which we asked for arrived with bbq sauce despite asking for no bbq sauce and had clearly been sitting a while. My Seabass was one small overcooked dry fillet served with one boiled potato and a few overcooked broccoli and cauliflower florets. It was all inedible. We paid for our two starters which we shared, and one round of drinks only. We left after complaining to the manager who looked terribly embarrassed. No appology was offered. The staff seemed to have no direction, no purpose and were not attentive to any of the dinners. Staff did not ask about any Food Allergies. AVOID...
Read moreGreat Expectations? A very popular place and having read the reviews and missed out when they closed for a holiday in December we were really looking forward to our night in Leeno's. The staff were attentive from the start, it's a pleasant atmosphere and was already busy at 1900hrs. We took advice on a nice bottle of red wine and we ordered the local garlic bread for a starter. For mains each, a grilled beef fillet, medium rare, with vegetables. (Not on the stone). Things then for us did not seem to go to plan or our expectation? We were less than half way through our garlic bread when the steaks arrived? The accompanying vegetables were not al dente they were best described as raw and my wife's steak was 'blue' side of rare? I had pepper sauce which seemed to be short of pepper or pepper corns? I am not a Chef and don't want the management to take this review the wrong way as a complaint but more of a quality control check? (Hence the 4* but with so much competition in Funchal it needs to be right. Unfortunately folks, we have had...
