PVP - Pão, Vinho e Petiscos (Bread, Wine & Snacks) — Restaurant in Funchal

Seemed like a well rated place and close to the hotel. We saw they did chicken and pineapple which made us pick the place.

It was my partners 21st birthday dinner so very disappointed with our experience to say the least.

We had garlic bread for starter which was very very good so had high hopes for the rest.

Next came our chicken kebabs which were well presented on tall hanging sticks, and the waiter puts the first bit of chicken and pineapple on the plate. This is where it went wrong. The chicken he put on my plate was RAW and he didn’t even notice. Later a lady came over and saw we were unhappy and took 1 look and said it needed cooking more. Once it cooked for longer it was decent (too much cartilage) but now we have an awful feeling we are going home with food poisoning from trying the chicken originally.

But my partner ordered sauted potatoes and they were SWIMMING in fat. And we never got the vegetables but got a balsamic vinegar salad we weren’t very pleased with.

We’ve returned for a second time at PVP during our holiday because the food and service were that good. As a party of 6 both times we got to try many of the menu items and we were very impressed each time! The hype this restaurant is getting is well deserved and the fact that it’s quite spacious means that you will usually find a table. But the highlight of both of our experiences has been the service. On both occasions our waiter was Ivo, who made us and our children feel so welcome, he remembered us from the first time, remembered our jokes and was so nice to our kids! It’s rare to find such amazing service, which is why I thought it was important to mention it in our review. People are such a big part of a restaurant’s success and they rarely get the credit for it. We will definitely return for a third time to this restaurant before...

I’d highly recommend a trip to this restaurant after our visit tonight. The food was faultless 10/10. We each had a soup starter, my wife had vegetable and I had the onion au gratin. Both were excellent and full of flavour. For main, my wife had chicken in mushroom sauce and I had the grilled loin steak in pepper sauce. Wow ! Both dishes were fabulous and accompanied with a very large portion of sautéed potatoes with bacon, onions and peppers and lovely well cooked vegetables. Always save the best until last ! My goodness - try the “grannies” pudding. You won’t be disappointed. The prices are very reasonable and the service was outstanding. Full marks. We’ll be coming back without any...
