I didn’t read the reviews until I‘ve just ordered my espada with a salad. And when I read the reviews I really thought about leaving this place immediately! Good that I did not! I really felt treated so welcomed and very estimated! I think the former reviewes have their reasons and yes, it’s true the smell was not nice! BUT: I‘m really sensitive to things like smell, bad taste and honestly I‘m the first one who will find the fly in the ointment! If you chose a seat in the back part of the terrace you may will not smell the smell which ( I think is bad luck for each restaurant!!) was definitely not permanent and which didn’t affect me while eating ( good luck for me maybe!). I was sitting at the front of the terrace next to the balcony railing. The espada was pretty ok, had a really delicious breading and the salad was really fresh. I‘ve had salad in other restaurants with quite better reviews with so bad salad that the carrot was completely dried and so bad tasting mayonnaise that I couldn’t even eat it! But the salad here the carrots, the tomatoes and the cucumbers were really fresh!!! The banana was a bit too sweet for me. No honey needed! The tables looked clean! The vino rosé I ordered was maybe a really cheap one though it was a bit too sour. But the two men ( maybe waiter and cook) have been really nice. I‘ve been on Madeira for nearly 3 weeks and I‘ve been in many restaurants eating. As a single traveller I had for the first time a really good and really nice conversation and I even got some short lessons in Portuguese! Don’t misunderstand, portuguese people are really nice, most of them have really good manners, are so respectful, helpful, decent and all!! But that was really the first time I felt so much welcomed! At the end they served a shot with Madeira vine which was really delicious! All in all I had to pay 16€, which is definitely fine and was definitely worth it! Maybe the guys have learned from...

Just left this place. There was 12 of us eating and 12 of us left our food... spaghetti bolognaise was vile, tomato soup was oily and came with an egg in it that wasn't asked about, french onion soup came out oily with a layer of rubber cheese and tasted and looked like dish water.. steak that was ment to be a fillet with mushrooms sauce came as a folded flat steak with a blob of garlic butter with no chips, then was told chips are an extra!! Beef stroganoff came out with no sauce and rubbery. On paying we told the waiter who didn't care and shrugged his shoulders.. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST, VILE...

Probably one of the worst meals I’ve ever eaten …I’ve had food poisoning from better meals.

To say the steak was hung is an understatement I’d say more hanging around.

There were only a couple of tables in and the waiter put our meals down on the wrong table, unfortunately he realised his error and we received it.

The meal was that bad the waitress apologised on the way out! She gets one star for that.

The overall rating of 3.2 is generous by about 3.1 …i’d have given straight no stars if it was possible - if only we’d looked...
