The food was absolutely delicious with great combinations of flavours. Despite this, myself and my partner were disappointed with the service.
We were told to wait a few moments before we could enter (it seemed as though the staff were having there own lunch) despite it being a few minutes after 12 o’clock (opening time). This was not a major issue, however, as the only ones in the restaurant we did have to wait a long time for our food. Our starter which was simply bread and olives took 10 minutes to arrive. At this point we had already orders our mains. We waited 35 minutes before expressing we had been waiting some time, especially as we were still the only ones in the restaurant. The reply from the waitress was ‘it is on its way’. It still took a further 10 minutes, meaning a total of 45 minutes. When the food arrived we were expected an apology. It was only when we asked for the bill and expressed that we were not happy with the service (for a second time), that the waitress apologised and explained they were ‘complex dishes that take time to make’. We both thought thought this would have been a reasonable excuse had this have been stated somewhere on the menu and explained when taking orders.
On a side note, the toilets had a dangerously high step to enter. This step couldn’t been seen until the door had been opened.
This was a real shame, as it was a lovely restaurant with a great menu, unfortunately the service did not complete...
Read moreVegetarian restaurants are not common in Portugal, and this one is a gem. We are not vegetarian, but were craving something different after a steady diet of salted meat and fish in Tasquinhos. Stumbled across Cor de Tangerina after a visit to the historical sites in Guimarães completely by luck, and what a find! The atmosphere is plain but warm, with several rooms with just a few tables each and windows overlooking the Ducal Palace. The menu was inventive, beautifully presented, and extremely tasty. The prices are what you’d expect in a tourist town, but worth every penny. It was one of the best meals we had during two weeks in Portugal, vegetarian or otherwise. The service was relaxed enough to feel quite on the slow side, but was not inattentive. Skip all the overpriced cafés on the squares and come here - you...
Read moreThere are people who come from different parts of Portugal just to eat in Guimarães. Most of those people are probably thinking of the traditional fish and meat dishes that indeed the town does very well. But what they probably don't know, is that one of the best vegetarian restaurants in the country is located right there outside the castle.
Not only is the food fantastic, the ambiance is so zen I did not want to leave. I want to hang out there as often as possible and I think you will too. Whatever you choose from the menu, do yourself a favor, top it all off with the tocinho do ceu dessert along with a...
