Amazing restaurant! We have spent over a week here in Portugal and this was THE best restaurant we have visited. If you go to Porto, you must absolutely visit Guimaraes and then this restaurant. Guimaraes is a wonderful and very scenic town with fantastic sites to see. It only takes 1 hour by train from Porto Campanhã train station and costs 15 Euros round trip.
This restaurant is very close to the castle and the palace and off the beaten path from all the tourists (I know we’re tourists too). We had the good fortune of sitting outside in a very peaceful and scenic neighbourhood.
The food was so tasty and really genuine. The best on our trip, and my wife and I have also travelled the world for many years. The service was outstanding. I saw another review from a few days earlier that wasn’t very good, but I’m not sure what that person expects or if they’re just writing a negative review. Overall we feel the same as the other 5 star reviews.
We started with beers and then had nice appetizers, main entrees, and then dessert. We also took the recommendation to try their local green wine which was very good. And then finished with port wine and espressos.
You will not be disappointed. Genuine good, great prices, and awesome service!
Thank you to the restaurant for...
Read moreI visited Pinguim with my parents and my brother during our vacation in Guimarães, and it was a wonderful experience! We had lunch at one of the outdoor tables, on a peaceful and charming street with a pleasant atmosphere and beautiful surroundings — the place was quiet and very welcoming, perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal. We were warmly welcomed by a friendly and attentive waiter. We ordered two codfish dishes: the first was served with potatoes and cabbage, and the second came with mashed potatoes, onions, and olives. Both were served hot, very tender, and full of flavor, with perfectly balanced seasoning and high-quality ingredients. The daily menu offered great options, and we could truly feel the care in the preparation of each dish. Without a doubt, it was one of the best meals we had in Portugal. We highly recommend it and will...
Read moreThis place lies just outside of the general tourist area which is perfect. Here you can enjoy food from the sea in many different constellations. We were a party of four but split two large plates. Many items on the menu are sized for two people (but can also be ordered for one). By recommendation from the waiter we had shrimp- and octopus kebab and the second dish was a bacalhau and shrimp stew. Both were delicious. We also enjoyed desserts (tiramisu and pudding), many beers and coffee whilst still getting away with a fair bill. I can recommend this place, especially for those who enjoy fish and other...
