We were looking forward to having dinner at Bordo do Cais this evening. With our two young children of 1 and 3, we had a table inside. We actually wanted to order sardines, but the waiter bluntly said, "No sardines!". I wouldn't talk to my clients this way, but ok. Then we went for the dorade instead. After 40 minutes, we still had no dorade. The same waiter suddenly asked what we ordered and acted like it was totally normal. Then they suddenly started preparing the food. We got the impression we were forgotten because all the tables around us had their food/fish already. Then, after 50 minutes, still no food. I was irritated and complained to the waiter about it, but he found it very hard to handle my complaint and made me feel I was the problem. I am not really a person who gets angry quickly, but his attitude really ruined the dinner for us. When the food finally came after 55 minutes, our daughters were exhausted, and we finished our dinner in a hurry. But not before the same waiter asked about our dinner, and I again expressed my frustration, and again, he didn't understand. I then had to ask him to leave our table to finish our dinner in private. Trattoria Borda do Cais, a charming Portuguese restaurant, exceeded our expectations during our recent visit with the kids. From the warm welcome to the cozy atmosphere, every detail contributed to a wonderful culinary experience. The highlight was undoubtedly the food - with the main focus on serving fresh seafood, including shrimp and other seafood appetizers, presented with care and bursting with authentic Portuguese flavors. The children particularly enjoyed these dishes, as did my partner and I, who savored the perfectly prepared seafood. The attentive service further elevated our experience, making it stress-free and enjoyable for the whole family. We left with full stomachs and happy hearts, already looking forward to our next visit to Trattoria Borda do Cais. Highly recommended for anyone seeking delicious food, warm hospitality, and a...
Read moreWe were recommended to the O Barril from our hotel and TripAdvisor but that was fully booked due to the football games playing in the square so my partner and I discovered this hidden gem. We tend to avoid the typical tourist restaurants catered more to the English as we are on holiday and want to try new things. This place was what we were after great food and service. My partner had Portuguese steak and potato, which she loved so I had a tiny bit to try and it was really nice. I decided to order the same meal the night after but in O Barril..this was far from as nice. The menu is a bit pricier that some of the other places to eat but we managed to get a table outside, and we were able to watch the sunset and thought it was really worth the price. Brilliant meal to start off...
