Yikes. Let me start by saying that my husband and I wanted to like this place. Based on the reviews, this restaurant seemed like a good idea for a weeknight dinner. When we arrived, we were the only ones at the restaurant. We sat outside. In these times of Covid-19, we noticed that in most restaurants in Portugal, certain precautionary measures were taken for sanitizing. Our table was not sanitized or wiped down so we had to do it ourselves (see the dirty napkin in the photo). Just to be safe, we sanitized everything else on the table including the utensils (they could have been sanitized but there was no way for us to know). The tapas left much to be desired. The cod was dry and a bit bland. The spicy chorizo was literally sausage on a dish. It wasn’t dressed up in any way— it could have been presented with more effort and flavor. I could have bought the chorizo myself and done more with it. The veal wasn’t great either. I actually ate two pieces and had to stop.

The drinks were massively overpriced. Service was decent but it would have been appreciated for the table to be wiped down.

We went to eat somewhere else after this meal because it was so...

Repolho was within walking distance from our hotel and highly recommended by the concierge. On a weekend evening, only one other table was seated. The serving staff was attentive and kept us refilled with water. We opted for the Surprise Menu (Menu Surpresa), which was a Chef's tasting menu of tapas with two desserts. This was an interesting way to get exposed to a number of different dishes that were local to the area. We enjoyed trying probably 15 different dishes. I don't know that either of us would order any of the dishes that we tried for a second experience with them, but this was an interesting meal on the Algarve trip to try sardines and olives and local cheeses and sausages and get exposure to dishes we would likely not have ordered on our own. Across the tasting tapas menu, the desserts were likely the standout.

The restaurant looked to have a great wine selection and did have a wine pairing option, which we did not have. Overall a nice option for a dinner, though outside of the desserts, nothing really...

Repolho in Lagos: A Jewel for Tapas Lovers, Great Food & Wine

First Impressions

The moment you step inside, you feel the vibrant energy: warm lighting, rustic wooden tables and subtle modern accents create an atmosphere that’s both relaxed and inspiring. Perfect for a cozy dinner for two or a fun gathering with friends.

The Tapas

Unbeatable Variety: Flavor Explosion: The grilled prawns in garlic-chili oil won my heart, and the homemade chorizo comes with an unforgettable fire-show presentation.

The Wine Selection

Repolho boasts the largest collection of Portuguese wines in Lagos:

Regional Treasures: Light, zesty Vinho Verde; robust reds from the Douro; and elegant Alentejo blends.

Expert Pairing: The team knows every bottle inside out and will match you with the ideal wine for your tapas—whether you’re just discovering Portuguese wines or you’re a seasoned connoisseur.

Atmosphere & Service

Cozy & Stylish: A smart mix of modern décor and traditional touches makes you feel right at home.

Warm Team: From the welcome at the door to the farewell hug, you’re met with attentive, cheerful faces. You can tell every recommendation comes straight from the heart.

Conclusion

Repolho is one of Lagos’s top destinations for anyone seeking the best tapas, an impressive wine list and genuinely heartfelt service. A true feast for all the senses!

A very pleasant atmosphere with attentive service. The food was both very good and disappointing. We started with bread and olives. The bread was store bought and disappointing. With all the nice bread in Portugal why serve this type of bread. Olives were good. We stared with 2 appetizers to share. Sardines which we thought would be pan seared but were pickled and cold, not recommended. The prawns were very good with a nice sauce. I also had the cream of vegetable soup which was very good. For our main we had Octopus which was excellent with a good size portion. I had Pork Belly which was terrible. It was not crispy and the meat was not eatable. I told the waiter that it was terrible and almost all the meat was on the plate. I was charged for it which shouldn’t have happened. Desert was very good as was the wine. The price was very high €140 for 4 for what we had and the quality. Would not recommend with all the great restaurants in Lagos.
