Hands down our favourite place to get fish when we visited Lagos in October 2025, the Adega da Marina was recommended to us by friends, and we were very glad for the recommendation! The Adega da Marina offers top quality fish cooked well, at very reasonable prices, in a restaurant that is full of both tourists and locals, and which clearly has a bit of a reputation locally too, given the queues at the door over weekends!

The Adega da Marina itself is a fairly basic, functional space - it's a large restaurant with a lot of tables and covers, with a vibe between a big canteen and sports bar (football scarves line the walls from clubs all over Europe, and Benfica games were being shown both nights we visited). This means the place has a lovely atmosphere made up both of locals and tourists. On the second night we visited, a local man sat at what was clearly his 'regular' table, order a fish stew, and then proceed to watch Benfica just about squeeze past Gil Vincente on the TV (the waiters clearly new him, and gave him some good humoured banter when Benfica initially went a goal down!). Menus are in a range of languages so you know what you are ordering if you don't speak Portuguese (menus were in English, french, German and Spanish, from memory)

Where the Adega excels is in the quality of the fish they serve. It's nothing fancy. The fish is grilled and cooked to perfection, and is left to speak for itself. We had swordfish one night, sea bass the other, and both were brilliant. The swordfish especially was great, a meaty chunk of fish I would happily order again and again (in part because we don't tend to get much swordfish back home in Britain). Simple sides (boiled or roast potato, salads etc) complement the fish beautifully, and there's an array of nice desserts too. The fish really is fantastic here.

There's also a good selection of wines, including one of our favourite European innovations that we don't tend to get back home - carafes of table wine, at extremely reasonable and low prices! For wine that is actually of a perfectly good quality, especially given the price.

As mentioned, the place is popular and so you can end up waiting in a queue to visit. However, service was efficient when we visited, and given the numbers of tables you don't seem to need to wait for to long. The prices are very reasonable, especially compared to other restaurants in Lagos, and both nights we visited the overall experience was wonderful.

One practical thing to be aware of - when you receive the cheque, you don't need to wait for a waiter to bring over a card machine - you can pay at tills over in the corner of the building. There's no rush or sense of being hurried along to do so.

Overall, a wonderful restaurant where we enjoyed two great meals when we visited - highly...

We 3 Londoners were changing coaches in Lagos at lunchtime.

I looked up gglmps and found this Portuguese restaurant. The terrace was full of mostly tourists with no space for us 3.

The Dish of the Day was Bacalhao a Brás for a reasonable 12. We entered to find a large quite busy barn with a football theme with the ubiquitous large muted TVs showing football and staff busy seeing to a mostly local crowd.

A waiter showed us to a central end of a row table He presented us with some paper menus which had 1l house wine at €5:55 & .5l at €3.25 so we ordered .5l branca.

We ordered 3 dishes of the day which came quickly after the wine & water and extra virgin olive oil & vinegar. The bacalhao were presented on metal platters, were generous, garnished with shredded lettuce, sliced onion & a few pitted olives.

The bacalhao was piping hot and delicious and we all cleared our plates as we savoured the atmosphere. Any more bread would have been too much.

As we ate, a group of similarly middle aged English tourists arrived next to us and chose a selection of dishes with which they seemed very happy with when it came.

I went to the clean and spacious toilet and on returning joined the queue at the till to pay just in case they had an integrated system and could recognise our (un-numbered) table. Our waiter spotted me and quickly printed off the bill at his station, handing it to me saying service was not included and it was to be left on the table.

I paid the bill amount by phone/card and joined my friends to discuss the tip. My friend had noticed a general tip box nearby. My other friend said that you don’t generally tip for Day Menus. A French friend living in Lisbon says tipping is not general but the Californian influx has made the hospitality trade get used to it and expect it. We left a Euro as a compromise tip on the table.

Overall a great experience with very good service and food. This place is a bit off the beaten tourist trail and, judging by the prices we saw as we explored the rest of the old town, was very good value and frequented by many...

I happened to be in Lagos in mid May when the Football Club, Sporting CP, won the Portuguese league title. Street festivities and impromptu celebrations broke out, and in this context I had the yearning for an authentic Portuguese meal. I asked a local of her favorite restaurant, and without hesitation she recommended this place.

Walking in to this restaurant, one immediately gets the sense of a big and open, communal and informal style dining hall. This place is not pretentious, nor does it sway to a touristy vibe. It is a true local spot, where good quality food in a family atmosphere is its hallmark.

Given the ongoing celebrations and football fans being out in jubilation, I was very fortunate to get a table without a wait. The service was very efficient with a cordial and helpful bent. Not being that hungry, I decided on a house salad (mixed vegetables), and a grilled Mackerel fillet. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, but the fish was absolutely mouth watering. If there were to be a gradation for freshness, I’d say it would be a hands down ten on the scale. For whatever the reason may be, the salty condiment in the dish had a very unique and delectable taste.

I had a very enjoyable time, especially with the mirth and happy chants from the local football fans. In addition, the prices at this restaurant are extremely reasonable. The totally unexpected bonus was me running into the owner of the restaurant by happenstance. He could not have been a more courteous and unassuming host. He (and his family) clearly have an identity on how they want to run this place, and it boils down to the basics; quality food in a pleasant setting. Try this place, and you may find it just as agreeable as so many of us that have posted here. I will definitely return on a...
