The Atlas hostel, restaurant, bar, and cultural space in Leiria. The place has a good reputation among locals and is the place where all Leirians take their visitors who prefer an experience outside of Portuguese tradition. Following the 2020 pandemic, it transformed its concept into a restaurant-bar and now offers a space that also participates in the numerous cultural fairs that take place throughout the year in the city center. I'll start with the space. The decor has a hipster, handmade feel, representative of all corners of the globe. It lives up to its name; visually, it's a collection of images and textures from all over the world. It may feel as if it's grown and matured organically, embracing the building's vintage-looking space and imbuing it with a light that evokes youth and energy. The spaces are big and take advantage of each room in the building, transforming them into a sequence of environments whose separation allows visitors to find a welcoming atmosphere and allows them to experience a different area on their next visit, depending on the number of guests at their table. The main area, where the bar is located, reminded me of a stage; the overall team dynamic inspires familiarity. For me, that connection between the staff is what sets the restaurant apart from any other feature. Whoever visits will be genuinely welcomed by hosts who want to create a happy experience that creates positive and memorable memories, that is the most Portuguese trait, how hospitable and kind they are. As for the breakfast and lunch menu, they offer 7 dishes, each with a couple of options to customize them, 6 of them are typical of a menu focused on travelers from the United States, which seems to me to be more of the same option that is read countless times in any gentrified brunch restaurant, it reminds me of the current Lisbon offering, even the drinks list adopts the terms popularized by transnational coffee chains with their green mermaid logo. The dinner menu offers Italian, American, and Arabic-inspired entrees. It would be wise to order the sample platter, which includes a small selection of most entrees and is filling enough for 5 or 6 people. I really enjoy the vegetarian and vegan options; even though the dishes are so basic, they're still enjoyable. The main courses are portions that can be shared between two people, with the salads being the most notable. I wish the dish labeled "Mexican" would be renamed Tex-Mex, as it doesn't indulge the palate of any mexican. The same goes for the Thai curry and Italian pasta. They lack the authenticity that one expect considering they mention those countries in their descriptions. The imitation ends up being an attempt that falls short and misleads anyone who tries it for the first time without having experienced those cuisines in their original form. Overall, the dishes are tasty, with esthetic-cute presentations that mirror those endless stereotypes you find on Instagram or TikTok all the time. What really sets the bar is that the products are of good quality and fresh. The desserts take home all the applause. If you can't contain your sweet tooth, try them all, including the tiramisu they offer for groups. Their cocktails are also recommended, and the selection they list on their menu seems very appropriate in regards to the dishes on the menu. I feel the restaurant is unique in Leiria. I like that they offer something different from the rest of the city. I admire their professionalism, service attitude, and hospitality. I applaud their involvement in the local cultural community and their resilience in the face of adversity. They have evolved over time. I am happy for the establishment's success and hope they continue to focus on creating a place where their hosts feel good to pamper their guests and take pride on a...
Read moreThe price is right and I personally enjoy the type. It's a nice hoStel (emphasis on the S). Good, cheap bar, and the place is located right on the center of the city nightlife - it's actually big night venue on its on! .. which is exactly why you shouldn't expect any decent sleep before 2am (fridays and saturdays at least). Decent, clean yet somewhat careless venue. A nail sticking out of the wooden floor structure of the room (!) comes to mind. I could have left a toe in Leiria if I didn't pay attention. Shower stolls have room for. improvement, especially in size and quantity, and where are the locks? Wooden floors also mean night trips to the bath wake up everyone. The staff were nice and are local youngsters. A great place for youth groups and not-so-pudic couples, definitely not for families, squares or "yuppies", then again, it's not supposed to be. P. S. They loan classic bikes (free) which are great for the riverside, and we were also treated the late breakfast scraps (hush hush don't...
