Cortesia — Restaurant in Lisbon

This review is not about the food as we haven’t even managed to eat anything despite booking a table for 4 for an early Saturday evening at 5.30. Finding a table between 3 and 7.30 pm is already a challenge in Portugal so we were delighted when seeing on google that the place was open continuously throughout the afternoon, so I called and booked a table for 4 at 5.30 pm. After an Uber ride we arrive there and on arrival we got told that they are not serving main courses but only starters until 7.30 pm !! BUT whoever we spoke to on the phone when booking never mentioned that fact. I asked the waiter why we were not told and his initial response se was that the fact they serve starter means they serve food 🙄 I told him it would have been good to be told that important fact when we called and he kind of apologise but it felt a bit forced and not very sincere. Also no attempt was made to really make up and maybe reassure us to give them an other chance. Have always viewed this place as a solid, slightly more upmarket neighbourhood restaurante, with food in the good-not-great bracket. But had an appalling experience on Sunday. Arrived with my girlfriend and asked to sit outside in the terrace. The waitress directed us to a table in a more crowded area and we asked if we could take another empty table that was in a less crowded part of the terrace. The waitress immediately started complaining that table would have to be cleaned and laid out and why wouldn't we sit in the table she was pointing us too. When we insisted we'd like the more secluded table, she went inside and made it clear she wasn't going to come out to prepare the table we asked. After a few minutes of being ignored, we left and went to another place. Service can be decidedly mixed in a good number of places in Lisbon but now that life has picked up again there is this 'screw you' attitude from several places as soon as they are full and feel customers come easy. Our experience was insane! There was no service at all. The chief waiter and another waiter looked at our table, spoke Portuguese about us, and did not say anything to us. Even when I asked, they said nothing, but it was so rude.

Trying to pay was a real problem. First, they added two wines to our bill, and I said we didn’t drink wine, and our couver was not added. They removed the wine and added a coke, which was also extra. They removed it again, and still, the cover was missed. On the fourth time, they finalized the correct bill.

After all this, they didn’t even say sorry while I was trying to pay at the cashier for 12 minutes.

About the meal; Dry aged meat was great, but we ordered a medium, and it came as rare.
