Di Casa João XXI — Restaurant in Lisbon

Good food, good service, but the atmosphere wasn't up to it.

Visited Di Casa João XXI on a friday night not long after 9pm.

I was positively surprised by the restaurant's size and decoration.

Unfortunately, most of the tables are located on the main corridor and they had several huge groups of people having dinner there, at least one of which was a kid's birthday party and there was a lot of noise and movement right next to my table.

While i realise this is not the restaurant's fault, i also think they could do a better job at confining these bigger groups to the back of the restaurant in a more secluded location as to put some distance between them and the double/single tables in orde to give more privacy to the latter.

Now to the "main course", the food!

The garlic bread was okay, not overly dry as it is sometimes served on other restaurants, and served well as an appetizer.

The crown, however, goes to the lasagna.

A delicacy of creamy cheese and minced meat drowned in a soupy, pungent tomato sauce that made my tasting buds melt.

Perfect.

The tiramisu was good, but i've had better.

I particularly found it a bit dry and could do better with a more creamy texture.

All in all, Di Casa João XXI is a great place to get your italian food jam although i would avoid it at friday and saturday nights if you're alone or only with another person for the reasons...

Worst pizza place I've ever been to. Firstly our reservation was at 19 (7 pm) the chefs only arrived 10 minutes after us, and the employees did not take any orders nor did they approach the table for the first half hour. Secondly, we only got out food 1h30 min later. To be honest we just felt like leaving the place, it was so disrespectful. In the meantime they were doing other orders for uber eats while we are seating there. Third, the food was horrible. I ordered a calzedone and everything was bad.. Vim jantar com o meu namorado e apesar do espaço agradável, debatemo-nos com algumas características bastante negativas no que toca à comida e ao atendimento. Logo quando fizemos o pedido, a senhora começou nos a tratar por “tu” e com gírias como “tipo” e “ya”, nada profissional para o atendimento à mesa. Pedimos como entrada um carpaccio de novilho, que para nossa surpresa veio literalmente congelado, as fatias todas agarradas umas às outras pelo gelo, apenas sabia a água, devido à descongelação, e consequentemente uma falta de tempero enorme. Relativamente aos pratos principais, vieram logo a seguir à entrada (que tínhamos mandado para trás devido ao incidente), dando então a entender que os pratos principais já estariam preparados, tendo sido apenas aquecidos. Durante a nossa refeição, a funcionária do espaço, por diversas vezes, retirou da nossa mesa temperos e afins sem qualquer permissão/pedido/ “com licença”.
