My first meal in Lisbon and the experience has set a high bar for the rest of our stay! The staff was amazing, in all the little details; for instance our waiter sent someone over to explain the intracacies of the dishes and presentation in English, which helped me choose the tanjine which is baked over low coals for 30 hours. When the waiter presented it, he had seen me photograph our appetizer and paused before serving to allow me to get my camera out and even encouraged me to try video to capture it!
The food was amazing! The fish appetizer had petfectly fried wonton shells with a creamy, garlicky sauce and a delightful array of minature bites of fried vegetable tidbits.
This was a bit of a walk from our hotel, The Júpiter Lisboa, but even on my sore, injured knee and walking in a very chilly, 38 degree night with light rain, it was completely worth it. The salted lemon and bay leaf made for a rich, aromatic au jus. The cumin and saffron in the rice made it tempting to eat it by itself instead of as something to soaking up sauce. The aubergine and chili paste wete very tasty, and the shrimp in tomato sauce was devine.
It was só good and such a lovely start to our stay that we will likely dine here again this weekend, even though it will mean we have to skip the opportunity of trying the oh-so-many options of cuidine Lisbon has to offer. A very enthusiastic 5 stars for this little gem! As they say in...

As a Moroccan living abroad, finding an authentic place that captures the true flavors of home is rare – but El Basha Restaurant exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I walked in, I felt the warmth and hospitality that reminded me of Morocco.
The décor is elegant yet cozy, with beautiful touches that reflect our rich culture. But the real highlight? The food! Every dish I tried was bursting with authentic Moroccan flavors – perfectly spiced, beautifully presented, and made with obvious care and passion. The couscous was light and fluffy, the tagine was cooked to perfection, and even the tea brought back memories of family gatherings back home.
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even more special. You can tell they really care about providing not just a meal, but a true cultural experience.
Whether you’re Moroccan and looking for a taste of home, or someone curious to discover the richness of Moroccan cuisine, I highly recommend El Basha. It’s more than a restaurant – it’s a celebration of Moroccan hospitality and flavor in the heart of Lisbon.
