Makka — Restaurant in Lisbon

We had dinner at this restaurant and unfortunately, despite the food being excellent, the whole experience was ruined by a shameful scene we were forced to witness.

When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by a young waitress who kindly showed us to our table and served us throughout the evening with great professionalism. We ordered a mixed platter of cold cuts and cheese, a carbonara, and a mushroom risotto. Everything was delicious, with a good quality price ratio. Even the tiramisù was nice.

The problem started soon after. Being seated close to the kitchen, we could clearly hear how the chef was speaking to the waitress: with an arrogance, rudeness, and cruelty I have rarely seen in my life. He didn’t just correct her for the missing cold cuts (which is a mistake that can happen), but went as far as insulting her with phrases such as:

“You are stupid or what?”

“Listen, shut up. From tomorrow do not come here, you are useless.”

“Do not answer me!”

All in an extremely aggressive and unjustified tone, as if he was enjoying humiliating her. He repeatedly threatened to fire her without any real reason, even laughing as if mocking her while she was being scolded.

It was a mortifying spectacle not only for that poor waitress, but also for us customers who had to listen to it. Truly embarrassing.

And that’s the real shame: the waitress herself was impeccable professional, kind, and attentive, she did her job perfectly despite the pressure and humiliation she was suffering.

With such a rude, arrogant, and aggressive kitchen staff, this place does not deserve its customers. We will most likely never set foot here again as long as certain people are employed. A real pity, because in the past the atmosphere was much more welcoming and relaxed.

I sincerely hope management opens their eyes: behavior like this should never have a place in a restaurant or in...

Lovely Italian place near Campo Pequeno. Excellent personable service. After some discussion about the pros and cons of a drink to start I settled on a negroni (I would say over the objections of the server who, to be fair, may have had a bad experience with a negroni at some point).

After some more discussion with my server we decided that I would have a caprese salad to start, and I must say that the cheese was exquisite.

Discussion of next course followed and a decision was made to go with the salmon ravioli. If I had to nitpick I would say that the pasta was very slightly underdone, but the salmon filling and the sauce were to die for.

I finished up with cheesecake (again to die for) and coffee and limoncello (¡claro!).
