We ordered a De'Longhi coffee machine from Corte Inglês as part of their Black Friday promotions in November 2024.
We are still waiting almost three months later.
In that time, we've received over 10 emails promising that the coffee machine would be delivered in the next few days, but each time the delivery was rescheduled at the last moment.
Once our complaints reached a high enough level, it turned out that these emails are generated automatically by the Corte Ingles system and bear no relation to reality at all.
At this point we were given the advice to ignore the emails from Corte Ingles about delivery dates, because they were known to be unreliable. Instead we were told to wait until we actually received a message from the courier to confirm that the item was on its way.
Of course that never happened.
If the key to customer service is to under-promise and over-deliver, Corte Ingles has a system designed to do exactly the opposite.
Every time we've tried to contact Corte Ingles on the phone, it's been a painful process that takes a long time, and involves a lot of waiting. And quite often the phone has just cut off, and of course no one calls you back, you have to start the whole process again.
If you need to speak to them in English, then that's a whole another level of pain and waiting.
In the end we've been advised that the Delonghi model (Magnifica Start) is out of stock, has stopped being manufactured and will never again be in stock.
El Corte Ingles also said the same thing about the next model - the Magnifica Evo when we asked about getting a similar model as a replacement - it is out of stock, is no longer being produced and will never again be in stock.
So, what is most surprising of all is to see that both these coffee machines are still being offered on the Corte Ingles website as if they're in stock!
I'm wondering if the idea is to get as much money from customers and hold onto it for as long as possible, and potentially use it as working capital, or to make money from interest. I can see now reading reviews online that we're not the only people who have experienced this.
I would like to make special mention of Nair Xavier, a supposed supervisor at El Corte Ingles, who is the undoubtedly the rudest, most arrogant, and worst trained customer service person that I've encountered across any brand! Nair's technique is to not listen to her customers, and to loudly talk over them, while saying lies and things she knows simply aren't true. Nair seems to be on a one-woman mission to destroy the El Corte Ingles brand.
Basically, you can't trust what's on the Corte Ingles website, you can't trust what they send in their emails, and you have to be very patient to get through to people who aren't going to tell you the truth anyway!
What has happened to this brand?!
Never...
Read moreTerrible experience with buying El Corte Ingles a chest of drawers, called Chiffonnier de Carvalho com 5 Gavetas Baltic (Baltic Oak Chiffonnier with 5 Drawers) I looked at the chest of drawers several times in the store to check it, then I ordered it online and had it home delivered. It was very expensive, but it was badly made and broken. It was also very, very smelly, so i left it to air out for a while. The first time I closed the drawers, they would not open again. Imagine, a chest of drawers, completely empty, with 5 drawers that are stuck shut. This is impossible! Despite this, it was almost impossible to get any help from El Corte Ingles. Under "Information about returns", the website says clearly that the product can be returned for free, but when I phoned, they said this product cannot be returned. (There is a note about this in another place on the website now, but not where it gives information about returns.) It took several weeks to get anything decided. The people on the phone are very nice, but they cannot make any decisions. Someone more senior makes decisions, but they just did not reply for a long time. Finally they agreed to exchange it, but when I said I wanted to return it only, and not exchange it, they just did not answer for weeks. In the end, I could get no more response from customer service, so when the delivery company phoned, I arranged for the exchange, hoping that new one would be better. When the delivery men came, the first man yelled at me (in both Portuguese and English) and told me it was my fault because I closed the drawers wrong. I showed them that the drawer fronts were made too big, so when they were closed, they got stuck and none would open again, but they didn't want to listen. The two delivery men took maybe 20 minutes to get the drawers open. They had to take the chest of drawers out into the corridor and put it on its side, and force the bottom draw open. Then it was very hard to get the others open. Finally, they found one screw in the side of the middle drawer that they said was the problem. BUT the drawers would still not close properly. The product was simply made wrong, but they would not acknowledge this. They took it back and will probably sell it to someone else who will have the same problem. Terrible service and many weeks of stress. I normally love El Corte Ingles, but I will never buy furniture or buy anything online from them again. **ALSO: When I made the online order, there were some customer reviews on the El Cortes Ingles website. Now they are gone and there is no way to leave a review on...
