Manjerico Alegre — Restaurant in Lisbon

I came here after a guide recommended it, it was nice, clean and a comfortable place to dine in except I got food poison from the tuna steak which I ordered, an hour later and had to rush to a building near by for the toilet, ended up canceling the evening wine tour because of the diarrhea. I have traveled all around Portugal as well as a regular in Lisbon this was the first time ever that I got food poison there, this was the only meal I had for that day and lastly 2 stars for the fast and great service, the tuna steak deserved 0.

Updated: It took me awhile to write this review because I wanted to make sure that it was from the tuna dish, that morning I got up and used the toilet like every normal day nothing happened, I didn’t have breakfast at the hotel because I was already late for the morning tour which ended around 1:30pm I came to the restaurant by the tour guide’s recommendation I believed it was a little after 2:00pm the restaurant was empty except for a few people including me. From the last dinner I had the night before until I stopped by Manjerico Alegre on the next day after 2:00pm it was already 19,20 hours ago so if it wasn’t from Manjerico I would have gotten the diarrhea in the morning, I am talking about I had a very bad stomachache right after I left Manjerico shortly later, probably of the mango on top the tuna or whatever in that dish I don’t even know anymore it is...

Well, Unfortunately I can't rate the food OR atmosphere, because we never made it in the front door! A rainy day, looking for somewhere to go with my brother & his 9 month old baby. Of course, it was lashing rain and we decided to sit outside (especially as the baby was a little bit on the agitated side and needed a feed) and we wanted to save any paying customers inside from a baby crying, so decided to sit outside. Tables and chairs and parasols/canopies were out, so we can sit there, right ? WRONG ! A man came out and my brother kindly said we will sit out here and we will be ordering drinks, etc. He just waved his hands around making fuss of the fact he wasn't going to serve people out in the rain. He just turned around and walked back inside. I am all for people being transparent and honest and saying "apologies, we will be closing down the outside seating area now due to the weather, but please follow me inside and we'll get you sorted" But I am not for and do not appreciate someone in a customer service position treating us like we've put them out, when in fact, it's the other way around (literally). We'll save you the hassle of having to serve us and in return, you've got a lovely 1 star review...

Let me start by saying both the server and the woman doing the cooking were very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately my experience ended there, we were 4 ppl and ordered the house specialty (mussels) they were overcooked and not fresh… when asked about them by the cook I was honest and she took them away, then I asked the opinion of the server on what to order for my main course and he recommended the Portuguese steak, well first of all I couldn’t cut the meat let alone chew through 1 piece again when asked by the cook I was honest and said I couldn’t eat it and she took it away. My friends both had chicken (that was eatable) and my husband had fish, (also eatable). Bill/ch eck/addition time…., I was charged for the “old” mussels and also for the “uneaten” steak, not to mention the olives ordered (never received) that I was billed for and the tap water that we were also billed for. All in all this was a horrible experience and as a visitor/vacationer to this area I would have/need to say do not waste...
