In the end it might have been the worst "hostel" experience of journies that include India, Sri Lanka, Japan, Europe and more. Even in Portugal I can compare Petit Lusa to other hostels in Ericeira, Lisbon, Porto, Aveiro and Sabugueiro.||||Our issues with Petit Lusa:||||1) 100 Euros per night for a tiny room (see picture) with poor noise protection and very, very basic breakfast (especially compared to our 45 Euro hostel in Aveiro where we stayed before) just isn't a good deal per se.||||2) What made it worse was Ms. Isabel. In a previous review "kolC" described her as inebriated. While I can't comment on that, we certainly share his frustration with her. A simple request for a simple second blanket (see picture) turned into a major hassle. At first she ignored our request, then she called the owner Carlos after we asked a second time. Carlos was professional enough to tell her to provide it to us.||||It continued with her going into our room every day despite the "do not disturb" signs we put on the door. Apparently she was checking whether we used the sofa bed, which was another big hassle for us as she implied we had to pay for using the sofa bed. Again, Carlos was professional enough to solve this. I had to call him myself though.||||It didn't help that she spoke no English at all. Unfortunately Carlos, the owner, was never around. In three days we never saw him once, I just spoke to him via phone. ||||At breakfast she was sitting on the sofa in living room looking at us. So in the end it really turned into a borderline hostile atmosphere. ||||Did we feel welcome and liked our stay? Not at all. ||||Positive was the cleanliness, the good WiFi, 7min by foot to Apolina...
Read moreOur room seemed more like a hotel. This hostel included our double en-suite room; extra storage cabinet space in bathroom, and, extra storage camera in bedroom; hangers available to hang items; tv; in kitchen there are plenty of utensils, plates, glasses, and cookware available; security cameras; not a drinking/party atmosphere; for those that like an overhead 'rain shower', the double en-suite has one; we loved Isabel in reception who was very attentive to every customer we saw; and the location in older Alfama District is perfect!!! ||My only advice is, that with a very attentive staff and owners present, it's best to let staff know 'in person' that you wish not to be disturbed; don't rely on the little card that you can hang on the door saying not to be disturbed.||Also, another reviewer mentioned a disappointing small room.... this hostel has smaller double rooms as well as larger. If you wish to book and have a question about which room to book, email them! They reply within hours of receiving emails, but, make sure you double check on assigned room prior to arriving that it is as promised in an email. :)|My only advice is, that with a very attentive staff and owners present, it's best to let staff know 'in person' that you wish not to be disturbed; don't rely on the little card that you can hang on the door saying not to be disturbed.|Also, another reviewer mentioned a disappointing small room.... this hostel has smaller double rooms as well as larger. Read moreThe hotel looks like family owned and run. Its beautiful done hotel in a peaceful surrounding about a km away from the main hub - Rossio. Next time I would prefer to stay in Rossio. The lady at he reception, perhaps the owner, was very helpful and sweet. However, her little familiarity with English was bit of a problem, The Braskfast area is quite small and the breakfast very basic. The major problem with the hotel was no elevator/lift as we were a family of four given a room on the top floor. The room was like 2 room ensuit with one queen size double bed for us and there were almost 6 bunk beds for our kids. Do not recall seeing any coffee maker or refrigerator int he room, which could be very lighted if one removed all the shades with multiple full size windows. However, the windows would only open a little. There was no television, if i recall correctly. The bathroom was outside the main apartment. I got a feeling that this room is used either as a dormitory for large group or makeshift godown as required. For the price we paid, i felt disappointed. Overall an average property. There is a restaurant just outside the hostel not owned by the hostel where we happened to have the...
