I recently dined at Restaurante Barão De Alfama, and it was one of the most delightful culinary experiences I’ve had in Lisbon. Tucked away in the charming Alfama district, this restaurant offers not just a meal, but a true taste of Portuguese tradition. The Food (10/10 – Exceptional!) Every dish was a masterpiece of flavor: Bacalhau à Brás The salted cod was perfectly flaky, mixed with just the right amount of crispy potatoes and eggs. Grilled Octopus (Polvo à Lagareiro) Tender, smoky, and drizzled with the finest olive oil. Arroz de Marisco A rich, savory seafood rice that tasted like the ocean in the best way possible. Dessert (Sericaia with Plum Jam) A sweet, egg-based Alentejo delicacy that was the perfect ending.
The Ambiance (10/10 – Cozy & Authentic)
The restaurant has a warm, rustic charm with traditional Portuguese tiles (azulejos) and soft lighting. Sitting outside on the cobbled street added to the magical Alfama atmosphere—especially as the sunset cast golden hues over the neighborhood.
The Service (10/10 – Friendly & Attentive) The staff made us feel like family. They were knowledgeable, offering great wine pairings (the Vinho Verde was fantastic!) and ensuring every detail was perfect.
Value for Money (9/10 – Worth Every Euro) While not the cheapest spot in Lisbon, the quality and portion sizes justified the price. This is a place where you pay for an experience, not just a meal.
Final Thoughts If you want real Portuguese cuisine in an intimate, historic setting, Restaurante Barão De Alfama is a must-visit. I left with a full stomach and a heart full of joy—I’ll definitely...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I was told they urgently needed staff and was asked to join for a shift. I ended up working over 10:30 hours and at the end of the day, they only paid me €30. This is completely unacceptable and exploitative. Staff deserve fair treatment, proper breaks, and appropriate pay for the hours they work. Unfortunately, this restaurant does not seem to value or respect its workers, That’s shameful and highly unfair. If they treat their workers like this, I can only imagine how little care they have for customers....
Read moreNice little restaurant down a quiet little street. We stumbled upon it while wandering around Alfama. It is a shame that there is not more traffic down this street because the food at this restaurant is delicious! We all tried different dishes and it was all really fresh and tasty. We could tell that they only used fresh ingredients because the textures and flavors really popped. This is worth the visit for some excellent food served up by really welcoming and...
