Having done some research, we decided to track down this restaurant to see if the reviews were right. Despite the rain and the location being well away from the main drag of eateries in the area, it was well worth the walk. We went early, which served us well as the restaurant was fully booked from 8pm but they managed to squeeze us in. The welcome was as warm as the feeling from the delicious Margaritas! I can thoroughly recommend them, I tried the Pineapple version but there are many other variations to try. The homemade Tortillas and Salsa went perfectly alongside the tangy taste of Tequila. To eat, I tried the house specialty of Botanas, my husband opted for the Chalupa plate. Both of us cleared our plates, barely pausing for conversation, the flavours were that good! Even though we were nicely sated, we could not resist trying the homemade options on the dessert menu. We chose the Brownie and the Cheesecake and we were so glad we did. Honest, hearty fare made with love from start to finish. I can see why this restaurant has tables reserved well in advance. The bill was more than reasonable compared to other restaurants in the town and we will remember this food long after the holiday has finished….

a disappointing experience at rosas tonight. arrived early and was able to get a table on the terrace even though all the tables were reserved. service was friendly but slow. the couvert and drinks arrived fairly quickly, as did the kid’s menu dishes, but we ended up waiting forever for our entrees. apparently our entrees were mistakenly given to the one other table present at the time, and when they brought the dishes back and brought that table their correct dishes, they didn’t think to remake and bring us our meals. only after another server came by much later to clear up our kids’ dishes and ask if we were all done did we have to tell him our dinner never arrived. unfortunate as the food was quite tasty, though portions were on the smaller side. my passion fruit margarita was small too and i was unable to taste or feel any tequila. the garden terrace was charming but we were eaten alive by mosquitoes. don’t believe we will be returning anytime soon.

WHERE A LATINO WOULD NEVER GO

Don't be confused by so many reviews. The place is really mediocre: a Mexican restaurant for Europeans, mostly with twisted recipes, bland raw materials and few hygiene rules.

Going in order: dark, unkempt environment, full of objects and therefore impossible to keep clean; very nice outside passage with the porches covered with creepers unperceptive waitresses but still fast service dishes that all taste the same, low quality meat, many frozen products, twisted recipes (flavours more Eastern European and Uk than Latin), rice seasoned with inedible canned peas: the only dish that is saved are the quesadillas and the very good bean cream that accompanies each dish. Margarita definitely watered down Hygiene: the waitresses all have long hair that flutters and go back and forth from the kitchen, which is in view but from which you can see all the products of the side dishes that spend the evening to get air and are not put back in the fridge after use: you can see a kitchen with pitiful hygienic conditions; in addition, I saw one of the waitresses take a frozen tortilla with her hands. It's true that it has to be cooked, but picking it up with the same hands with which she touched a thousand other things is pretty disgusting. Non-judgeable price but still high for the...

Incredible Mexican gem nestled in an apartment complex in glamorous Vilamoura in the Algarve.

To start, we had nachos with pico de galo, sour cream, refried beans, guacamole and hot salsa - divine.

For mains we shared the chicken enchiladas and the beef tacos. Both were lathered in fresh guacamole, sour cream melted cheese and served with spicy rice and refried beans. The enchiladas were simply a delight. Perfectly seasoned and just everything an enchilada should be. Now, the beef tacos. Oh boy. Yeah, these bad boys were unreal. Slow cooked beef was so rich and it’ll melt in your mouth, you better believe it. Offset with that perfect guacamole this really was a delight to eat. The size of these things as well, they are large. Amazingly soft flour tortillas, you’re gonna need a knife and fork for these.

Finally, for dessert we had the ice cream burrito. A crepe-like wrap filled with strawberry and chocolate ice cream flanked by whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Really tasty. Only judgement is I would have preferred a richer, more chocolatey, warm sauce.

All this was accompanied by an absolutely refreshing frozen margarita.

Let me tell you, in Vilamoura, harbour views are amazing and the restaurants marina-side are definitely worth a visit for a drink but Vilamoura’s best kept secret is...
