If you’re craving an authentic seafood experience with a local twist, this special seafood restaurant is an absolute must-visit. Tucked away in a cozy spot near the coast, it serves up an unforgettable journey through the flavors of the sea — with a Portuguese soul.
The star of the night was undeniably the sardine grill — fresh-caught and grilled to perfection, with crispy skin and that rich, smoky flavor only true seaside grilling can achieve. It was rustic, bold, and beautifully simple, served with a drizzle of olive oil and a touch of lemon.
Next came the tuna steak, seared just right — tender on the inside with a slight char on the outside. You could taste the freshness in every bite. It was paired subtly with seasonal greens that complemented the fish without overshadowing it.
Surprisingly, one of the best dishes wasn’t from the sea — the mushroom grill. Earthy, juicy, and deeply flavorful, it was the perfect vegetarian counterpoint to the seafood offerings. A real treat even for meat lovers.
To tie it together Monte Velho red wine added — crisp, citrusy, and refreshing. It elevated the entire meal and showcased the region’s underrated wine culture beautifully.
We loved the desserts - Eton Mes dessert freshly served with berries and some lava cake .. what more you...
Read moreEdit - changed the rating as the food is good, and if they were transparent about the prices I would have rated 4-5. We went to the Fisherman's Shack before and had a very different experience. This time although the staff was really friendly, we were recommended (pushed) the special which was Sea Bass and it was supposed to br 'slightly' more expensive than the one on the menu (which is not an issue), we explained that we have been to the restaurant before but this time we just wanted to have a main as we were both not feeling great and we even felt forced to have dessert. We understand that it is their job to sell but we spent half of our generous daily budget and although it is insignificant comparing to the overall price, we were charged for bread, butter and sardine paste we never asked for or touched and were never made aware was chargeable. Although the staff was very friendly, they also made us feel uncomfortable as they were very hands on. We would not go back or recommend the restaurant as they take advantage of tourists, the time before it was only the owners and we had a good experience but now they mislead you and don't disclose prices or what you get for it (which I am sure it is not legal?) and you can get MUCH better food for 3/4 the...
Read moreI found this restaurant a few days before visiting in my Google maps feed from other visitors. My partner and I decided to visit as we wanted a meal which was homely, friendly and not marina extortionate. Off the beaten track, this isn't the restaurant to come to if you want fancy marina sights and extortionate meals. It is however the place you come to if you want tasty, local Portuguese cuisine with a homely friendly service. We didn't seem to be the only Brits visiting as we heard and spoke to other diners. I had mussels to start and sardines main. My partner had fish soup to start and a prawn (and possibly other sea food) risotto. Our toddler son had fish fingers and chips which he loved and having tasted them I agree they were better than what he'd had at the Hilton where we are staying. Service was fabulous. I wish I knew the lady's name but the main server who I'm sure must be general manager or even owner was fabulous as was the gentleman who served us. I'll try to come back before we leave. Unless we find other hidden gems such...
