ETC. Osteria Bar — Restaurant in Ponta Delgada

Honestly, avoid. It’s beautiful, and I’m sure it’s lovely for a drink (if you can get it), but there’s better places.

I made a reservation and even said it was my birthday (I expect nothing but they asked if there was an occasion!); while we were seated quickly that’s generally where it ended being good; we ordered cocktails and our food at the same time which was a bit strange, but when the food (which I have to say was good!!!!) came, our drinks still had not. I asked about our drinks 3x and eventually we were done with our food and just asked for no more drinks. Getting be bill was also an exercise in patience.

I will say: clearly they are understaffed; one of the waiters was apologetic and kind about us not getting any drinks, etc - I feel for him. But like, it was not worth going there. There’s so many other restaurants and until they get fully staffed (???)...

Etc Osteria is a real gem in downtown Ponta Delgada. The place looks amazing with its beautiful architecture and sophisticated, yet very comfortable, interior design. We felt a lot of care was taken into the design, especially the acoustics of the room, plus there restaurant surrounds a lovely garden that brings a lot of natural light and gave us just the perfect relaxed atmosphere while enjoying our meal. We didn’t try everything on the menu, but felt the food is a great mix of Italian inspiration with fresh local ingredients. You have to try the arancini and the slow cooked pork neck. On our first visit to Ponta Delgada, my wife and I discovered Etc. Osteria Bar, a true gem. The warm atmosphere and the kindness of Gonçalo and Henrique made us feel right at home. Though not too hungry, we shared a refreshing a fresh tomato salad with juicy cherry tomatoes, fragrant pesto, and delicate fresh mozzarella. The pizza a componesa arrived, a delightful mix of flavors and textures that kept us reaching for the next slice. But when it came to dessert, sharing was not an option—each of us enjoyed our own.
