Mercado Do Peixe — Restaurant in Ponta Delgada

Wow. You couldn’t be anymore rude. When we asked for a table, the person was very rude, talking like she wants us out of here. She gave us bad looks. Our server had a very angry face at us, and was impatient. A other group joined about the same time as us, and I could see that the lady was avoiding us. It took 45 MINUTES for her to even come. And then she came very fast to the other group. By the time they had ordered and got their appetizers, she didn’t even come yet. Also, the menu was very pricey for some bad food. And when I went to the bathroom, she and the other waiters were at the bar on their phones and eating. When I went to the bathroom it had pee all over the toilet seat and it smelled horrible. There was a full trash can and paper towels all over the floor. The waiter couldn’t take any longer to get a bottle of water, even though there were tons of packs of water at the bar. After an hour of waiting for food that I could cook faster, it came. My fish was horrible. It was tasteless and had zero seasoning. And it was very burnt, which I could see from them trying to cover up the horrible taste. Everyone else in my party disliked their food, as it had a bad taste. After we were done eating our disgusting food, we waited for the bill. I went to go find the waiter to ask for the bill, and she said to pay at the front, even though I just saw her at many other tables with the bill and credit card machine, smiling and laughing with others. Sorry to even give this place a one star it really doesn't even deserve one star customer service waitress was absolutely horrible we gad a big party and I guess she didn't feel like being bothered with a big party so she would only take half the party's order and walk away then she rolled her eyes when we asked for a couple of more drinks then didn't even ask if we wanted dessert except for 3 people in our party then the food that's a whole different story one food was over cooked squid was super dry steak had no flavor then I asked for a Filet mignon which that was probably the best joke for food which was just a peace of flat steak with no flavor and folded in half like a taco to make it look thick lol what a joke but I wouldn't even complain on Google if the service was just ok but it's had to be one of the worst I've experienced so do yourself a favor and just pass this place to the side and forget you even seen it...

Enjoyed two meals here while visiting. Fish of the Day fantastic - Parrot fish grilled with simple seasoning and done to perfection. Delicious. After seeing my meal, several other diners enjoyed the fish as well. Our waitress explained that Island artisans use the parrot fish scales to make delicate 3D artwork of flowers, which is very beautiful (we happened to have purchased one earlier that day). Very tasty local cheese: semi-soft, medium sharp, delightful. We also enjoyed mussels, clams, filet mignon and the lovely vinho verde - Alvarinho. Plus, the house-made Passion Fruit Mousse. My husband had five scoops of vanilla ice cream, yes - five (he missed the unbelievable mousse).
