If I was going to only suggest one place to go on the whole island this would be It. I popped in for some wine and some snacks and the owner Bruno blew me away with his knowledge of Portuguese , wine, food and culture. I have been working in restaurants for 25 years and I can count on one hand times I have met people with this much passion about what they are doing and serving . He truly cares about sharing food, drinks and knowledge from his homeland.
Try the chouriço, I grew up eating Portuguese food in Canada and this was by far the best I have ever tasted , apparently its from a small farm in the interior of the Portuguese mainland where they raise the pigs, make the wine and control basically every aspect of its production . I tried a a few meats and cheeses and asked Bruno to pair things for me and offer some interesting wines and ports , he definitely delivered and I stayed there chatting with him far after they closed talking about our philosophies on restaurants and life.
Such an amazing place and ther service was far above anywhere else I had been...
Read moreMy wife (vegetarian) and I had tapas/wine here tonight, and it was a great experience! We walked past the inconspicuous front at first but were glad we found it! It's at the corner of a short street. When we entered, i knew it was a space that was made with a love and passion for wine. The owner sat the 2 of us and gave us the menu of small plates and a comprehensive selections of wines.
We are wine novices, but he made us feel very comfortable! He asked us what we wanted to have to eat and what types of wine we like & dislike and he chose 3 wonderful wine pairings/ flights for us to enjoy!. My wife Loved the pan mushrooms, the chestnuts, and the potatoes! We had warm bread to soak up the garlic/herbed/olive oil from the dishes. I had the blood sausage and cheese from the owner's town, and it was delicious with our wine!
What a great find! Would...

As Australians with good understanding of our own wines, a little about French and Spanish wine but none about Portuguese wine this was a perfect destination. I only wish that I had come here at the start of my trip rather than the end. My partner and I were both able to describe what we typically like, answering a few questions and our waiter presented us each with a reasonably priced wine (by the glass) which was both completely different to what we typically drink but also perfectly matched to our tastes.
Food was also exceptional - turns out that tinned fish can be a delicacy, not just a cost saving technique. The pate and boar sausage were both...
