Vila Baleia — Restaurant in Porto Moniz

An absolute worst experience and would not recommend, therefore avoid at all costs.

Waiters are extremely rude, no food explanation and tries to argue with us, even though we are just asking questions. No drinks menu, misplaced orders in the system, and arrogance from the staff is simply outstanding.

Food quality was decent, but they barely communicate therefore you have to ask for every detail prior to ordering. Instead of our mains - they brought vegetarian dishes, insisting that it was what we ordered. No replacement, no adjustments to the bill whatsoever.

One of the worst places to dine in Porto Moniz, and once again - avoid...

Pretty disappointing compared to older reviews. The staff was just plain off rude and they couldn't tweak anything about you order. Only fish dish they could serve as a fillet was a black scabbardfish, fairly disappointing for a fish restaurant along the sea. Moreover, it did not taste anything near fresh and was really plane. Even the French fries were soggy and tasted old. Same goes for the unappealing desserts. It seemed like no effort was put in the dishes apart from an unripe physalis berry, which is even worse than a micro carrot @GordonRamsay. I wouldn't recommend, especially since there are better (and cheaper) options...

Having read the reviews of all the restaurants in the area, I chose this one as it had enough positive reviews to chance my arm.

The service was abysmal.

The bread, which is a staple of every meal in Madeira, had been through a nuclear explosion.

The octopus might as well have been a roasted tyre.

There was a huge portion of rice to go with the potatoes.

I opted against dessert.

The wine was nice, though, even though I never got the second glass I requested.

For transparency, I didn't bother complaining. It was difficult enough to deal with them when trying to order something, let alone argue the toss over the worst...
