I encountered unacceptable racism/discrimination here. I'm an Indian woman, been living in Portugal for 5 years and speak Portuguese. I just came here to grab a coffee and a sandwich. Immediately I could sense a weird vibe. The cafe was full so was directed to a small esplanade in the back, which was not very pleasant because it was raining. Long story short, the blonde waitress ignored me while taking the order and even serving a person in the next table. I was looking out for a table inside the cafe, and people who came after me and were in the esplanade were called to be seated inside the cafe. The waitress should be ashamed that she treated another human being the way she treated me. I'm a highly educated doctor with alot of self confidence, I'm not going to take their shit lying down. I walked out and told the old lady at the front, seemed like the owner, that I'd been waiting and was just ignored. She mumbled something, wasn't apologetic, so I said I'm leaving and did so. This is 2024, racism is abominable, educate your ignorant selves on how to treat ALL people well. If you have any conscience, don't patronize this place. What goes around comes around. I would like to note that I usually (in Portugal) don't face this level of discrimination and sometimes people...
Read moreFantastic, the owner/staff was very friendly and the food was great. The desserts were made by the owner herself. The salad was one of the best that I had in Porto. At the end we only paid $12 for coffee, tea, 2x pastries and 1 cake. There was a begger who asked for food when we enter the cafe. The owner was nice to heat up a pastry and gave it to the begger. When we left, I gave them $15 for the food she gave to the begger. At the end the owner gave us 2 Portuguese tarts as...
Read moreWe passed this cafe on our way back to our Airbnb and decided to stop for a glass of red wine and port, to unwind a bit after all the walking and sightseeing. What an amazing discovery! This is a beautiful place, with mid 20th century furniture and deco, low lighting, and classic rock music from the 60s and 70s, plus a selection of pastries, teas, and wines. We were instant fans and ended up spending a couple of hours (and glasses of wine, ahem...) there, relaxing and...
