I am torn between giving three and four stars. Since I only visited once I find it fairer to give four as we only tried a limited selection of the menu.
First of all: service is perfectly friendly and hospitable. English is spoken and there are English menus.
There is cappuccino available and the fact that a flat white is on the menu led me to believe that coffee would be excellent. However, even though there is plant based milk available this is not a 3rd generation coffee place. The coffee was below average. The reason might be an oat milk that is not suitable for making foam - the cappuccino was drinkable, but I wouldn’t order another.
The toasties were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. We had one with banana and cheese and one with Brie, honey and nuts. The taste was good, but both were too dry for my liking.

Read moreSo so good! Felt all the nutritional needs my body has been lacking was met within one dish and it was so tasty! We got the rice with vegetables and tofu and ended up getting 3 different shakes they were so good! My partner and I are both not vegetarian and we did not miss eating meat at all. Staff are really helpful and friendly. We had olives as well as per our request despite not being on the menu which were great too. Situated in a cute little back street with great atmosphere. Definitely found a great gap in the market. Food was that good and menu was so varied that we are coming back this evening!

An excellent lunch stop before heading to the airport enjoying the day special of lentil "meat"loaf, kale, bulgur and beans with nice wine by the glass, a very large piece of forest fruit cheese cake and banana loaf and good coffee. All explained by the friendly staff. It is exceptionally good value for money and we took some savory pastries to enjoy on the plane. This place is exactly what you need after enjoying too much of the fish, shellfish and meat (but not a lot of vegetables) that Madeira has to...
