Cova Funda — Restaurant in Tomar

A wonderful little place. We went in for a late lunch, I think the menu changes very often, today the 3 dishes of the day were pork ribs, Plaice (fish) and cuts of pork in oven. We had the ribs and fish, both dishes were good, fresh and had a wonderful "home cooking" feel, with self-cut potato fries for the ribs. (great desserts too) The owner is a great guy, very attentive, friendly and loving, they immediately had a baby chair for our daughter and were smiling and waving at her throughout. Great little restaurant in Tomar. The food was really nice - all freshly cooked. The highlight was the owner/host - so friendly and welcoming. He gave us recommendations of where to visit for the short time we had there - really helful advice. We were there early for lunch - by the time we lleft it was packed with locals. It was also close to Christmas - and the owner insisted we try a local Cjristmas dessert before we leave - at no cost. So generous and kind! Great value, great food and...

Unplanned and fantastic. We wandered into Tomar without a plan for lunch. The host, Ricardo, could not have been more hospitable. Not only was the setting cozy and cool, he had a “real vegan hamburger” on the menu to meet my weird preferences. After a very nice lunch, he offered us several homemade desserts. When I asked for a banana as my dessert (bc I saw it in the display case), he gave me the banana…with an espresso. Oh, and he spoke perfect English. Very nice...
