D’o Costume — Restaurant in Tomar

We had this place on our last for a while and finally stopped in after a long walk, so we were plenty hungry.

First off, Tiago (the owner) is wonderful. He is so friendly and accommodating so he made us feel quite welcome. And even though we were the only ones who wanted to sit outside, which meant he would have to walk farther to serve us, he was more than happy to oblige.

For food, we started with the baked Camembert cheese topped with nuts and it was simply phenomenal! We also had to try the Milho frito, which are Madeiran fried cornmeal squares, which were also excellent.

We followed that up with one of the best burgers (with bacon, pickles, and caramelized onions) on an excellent bun (it makes a difference, trust me), and very good fries.

My wife had one of the best salmon dishes of her life, along with potatoes and a perfectly prepared migas. (This was one of four excellent salmons we had in Tomar on this trip, with the others being at Fernando's, ADN, and Beira Rio.)

We finished out with an amazing caramel topped chocolate mousse.

D’o Costume is a great spot in Tomar, with a very attentive and communicative team. You can really feel that they aim to give each customer a personalized experience, which makes the atmosphere all the more welcoming.

The ambiance is calm and pleasant, perfect for a relaxed meal.

The food is simple but enjoyable. The burgers stood out, with meat that’s clearly above average, juicy and flavorful thanks to their straightforward, no-fuss preparation. The mille-feuille-style fries are a fun and creative touch, though in my opinion, they were a bit on the oily side.
