My wife and I went all out tonight and ordered several items that I normally would be too intimidated to try. So glad I did this:
s’mores gyoza! Insane. This is my new favorite dessert. It sounds so weird but trust me, you’ll love it. I laughed at how well the chocolatey marshmallowy goodness fit into a fried gyoza. It’s amazing.
All the gyoza here is actually delicious. The paired sauce made my eyes roll to the back of my head and just smile for a moment while I enjoyed every bite. I’m a fan!
My go-to ramen has always been tonkotsu (pork bone broth ramen) and it’s as good as ever but today I ventured out to the beef shoyu. It’s a different, soy-sauce-based broth, that leans into the beef flavor a little more. It had a very nice, softer flavor. My daughter who only likes noodles and veggies would rave over this dish. And I love how thinly sliced the beef is and how perfect cooked the soft boiled egg is!!!!
Perhaps tonight’s star of the show was the pork cutlet curry. I’m a fan of curry in Indian food and Thai food, but the Japanese approach to curry at ramen haus was a sweeter, yet thicker take than I am used to. Frankly, it knocked my socks off. Tonight I had it with rice. Next time I’ll try the extra thick udon noodles. The curry had a gravy-like consistency that was perfectly salty and sweet and paired heavenly with the pork cutlet. This was so so so so good. Think mashed potatoes and fried chicken in Japanese curry form - it’s heaven. You can thank me later.
The salmon poké bowl was so fresh and full of mango, papaya and greens. It had several fresh ingredients that brought it to life. I could eat that salmon all day.
Soy vinaigrette noodle bowl. This is a cold ramen dish. It reminds me of Japanese take on pasta salad. It takes fresh, cool, comes with sliced cherry tomatoes, green onions and a dozen other cool fresh garden ingredients. To me it tasted like the healthiest, happiest little bowl of sunshine flavored noodles and veggies ever.
Also - the water there is cold. They actually bring you your own cold glass pitcher. They have really great tasting ice water.
Final answer: five stars - perfection. Nice work, Ramen...
Read moreSo I love to eat Ramen at home, however historically any time I have attempted to have it out I am sorely disappointed. It has always fell flat. I feel the key to excellent Ramen is the broth.
I have been aware of Ramen house in Farmington since they started their build out a few years ago and because of my previous Ramen experiences I had chosen to avoid it.
However the other day Ramen House posted on one of the various pages and simple stated, business is slower in the summer and asked people to stop by and try them.
As a small food business myself I appreciated the honesty and candor, and of course wanted to show support for my fellow business owner.
Tonight I ordered take out, and my only reaction was to flog myself for taking so long to do it. It was the best Ramen ever!!!
I ordered the Umami Bomb Ramen: the menu lists the items in this ramen as Pork Bone Broth, Pork Chashu Slices, Spicy Ground Pork Green Onions, Corn, Bamboo Shoots, Black Mushrooms, Seaweed, Ajitama Egg with Black Garlic Oil.
The broth had a deepness to it, and it was what almost felt like "thick" without actually being thick. The pork flavor was clear and present. The spicy pork in this lent another layer of flavor. I am not a lover of spicy, however this had just the right amount and added yet another layer of flavor.
The pork slices were perfectly cooked and even after a quick heat up in the microwave, were still moist and flavorful. The noodles were firm and not gummy in the least. I loved the addition of the Ajitia egg, which is a Japanese soft boiled eggs soaked in a sweetened soy marinad. In retrospect I should have added a few extra of those, absolutely delicious.
And again this was a take out order. Everything was packaged and wrapped nicely. No seepage or spillage whatsoever. All I had to do was empty each container into a bowl, go find my ceramic Japanese soup spoon and enjoy.
This is a full 5 stars 💥💥💥💥💥in my book and I can't wait to try it again.
It is definitely worth the time, effort, and $ to make the trip to eat this food.
Kudos! Job well done! And much...
Read moreIf you're looking for good ramen and great service, this is a great place to go. This was my family's and I first time and it was a great experience. Shout out to Talmadge for being an amazing host and waiter. I really appreciated his recommendations on the menu. We went all out to try a little of everything on the menu. For appetizers, the Karaage Chicken with honey mustard was the best thing on the menu. Hot, fresh, flavorful, juicy and tender. You can't get any better when it comes to chicken. I had fun trying out some of the other appetizers as well. Taro fries are interesting. They are very starchy and different, but I enjoyed trying them with the dipping sauce they served them with. The Pork Gyoza were good and the Steam Bun was not personally my cup of tea (not much flavor/ bland). We tried most of the Ramens (Tonkotsu, Spicy Pork and Umami Bomb). The flavor of the broth was good. This was my first time having ramen with corn, but I liked the texture it added and it tasted great mixed with the broth. Sadly my eggs were cold. The flavor of them was good, but I would have enjoyed them better if they were warm or hot. Overall, I would give the ramens a 4 to a 4.5. I'd come again in the future. As per deserts, the Yuzu Cheesecake so delicious! Pretty small, but perfect for 1 person. The Honey Toast was pretty good as well and huge! It was enough for all 4 of my family to share and have plenty. Only feedback on that, it comes with fresh fruit on top, but so little of it that there isn't enough of it to enjoy or share (each person got 2-3 small pieces each). If there would have been more fruit, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. This is also in a great location near the Farmington Station outdoor mall.
Second time in and I have the katsu chicken curry. The curry was really flavorful and sweet. I enjoyed it. There wasn't enough chicken in my opinion and it was thin sliced, but overall it was...
