EDIT: given owner's response - As per our review below, the restaurant owner lied to us upon entering, then again later in restaurant, all the while being rude and condescending, before mentioning the no kids allowed after being called out on his untruths. If you read his rude and combative responses to other critical reviews on Google, would you really trust this person and establishment with your food and do they deserve your hard earned money.
This is the experience my spouse and I had along with our daughter this past weekend. Imagine this is your interaction after arriving at a restaurant at lunch time with your family after a steep walk up a hill with a young child and seeing someone who is supposedly the manager (and later would discover is the owner).
My spouse: "Do you have a table for 3" Manager/Owner: "Do you have a reservation?" My spouse: "No" Manager/Owner: "Sorry it is not possible, we have no spots. Maybe in 2 hours"
(Now at this point, we are a little annoyed b/c we can see the restaurant through the window is almost empty but we are from New York CIty and some nice restaurants have these weird seating times occasionally. However the manager was fairly condescending and rude in this interaction, and we didn't quite trust him)
So we walked outside and my spouse log on to the website and there are free reservations for every 15/30 minute time slot for the whole afternoon. This would be any size normal party, letalone the 3 that we were. So my spouse is stubborn, and made the reservation, which had to be confirmed by restaurant in a subsequent email confirmation which came 2 minutes later. And we walk back into the restaurant
(Manger/Owner is not there originally but as we would come to learn his daughters and wife are)
My spouse: "Yes we have a reservation for 3" (I and my daughter walk in behind him) Host/Daughter: "Ok what is your name" My spouse: "I give my name" Host/Daughter: She checks and says "Ok come this way" Mother: (in Slovak says to daughter, "no" and to go get her father .. we can understand some words) Host/Daughter: "Ok please wait" (Manger/Owner enters dining room) My spouse: "Yes we have a reservation for 3 now" Manager/Owner: "That is not possible" My spouse: "Yes see it is here, showing my email confirmation" Manager/Owner: "Again that is not possible" My spouse: "See here" pointing to his name on his booking screen software Manager/Owner: "Oh but it is not possible, we can't have children here, we are for adults"
It is at this point we am very annoyed because; If they really just wanted adults in the restaurant, why did he not say that when we first asked, let alone the multiple opportunities after that This is just a standard restaurant and dining room, no different from other restaurants in Bratislava, or elsewhere in world. Being a minority, with a minority spouse, in a mixed race marriage with a multi-racial child, we are both attune to when people are at best double talking us, letalone any form of bias or discrimination
Regardless of the above, we left and let them know we would write about this experience because we don't want others to ruin their trip or meal by experiencing the same. Especially if you are a person who because of who you are, do feel excluded in situations.
Maybe the food is decent, and maybe it is average. Regardless there are so many amazing food establishments in Bratislava, with amazing service and friendly people. We went one a few minutes away downhill called "Petite Creperie - Pouličné palacinky" which was amazing in food and service.
We don't know the rules in Slovakia around whether you can exclude families from regular restaurants or any sort of bias or discrimination. If we did, we would report it to a relevant authority. Wha twe do know is that this is a restaurant that you should avoid so you can patronize all the amazingness that is the rest of the Bratislava food scene from markets to cafes to restaurants, and if at right time of year - the...

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant, where I tried the duck, and I must say it was nothing short of exceptional. The duck was perfectly cooked—juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. Paired with the crispy, golden potato pancakes, it made for an unforgettable combination that truly highlighted the best of traditional Slovak cuisine.
The ambiance of the restaurant added even more to the experience. The location itself is stunning, offering a cozy and inviting atmosphere, perfect for a lovely night out whether you’re on a romantic date or enjoying an evening with friends. We were fortunate enough to be seated in the unique cave area of the restaurant, which provided a special, intimate setting that felt both rustic and authentic—definitely a standout feature that added to the overall charm.
While the prices lean toward the higher side, the quality of the food, drinks, and service make it absolutely worth it. The selection of wines and beers was impressive, with a wide variety that caters to different tastes and preferences. We found the drink options to pair wonderfully with our meal, and the staff were knowledgeable in making recommendations that complemented the flavors of the dishes.
Speaking of the service, it was impeccable. The staff were attentive, friendly, and well-informed. They took the time to offer clear suggestions and explanations about the menu, which made our dining experience all the more enjoyable. It’s clear that the team is passionate about what they do, and their warmth and professionalism truly made...
