We were in Bled last week, and in planning our trip, I saw this place on Google with 5 stars, it looked super interesting, so I made a plan to ensure we could go here the first day we were in Bled, since it was Sunday and I think they are closed Monday and Tuesday this time of year. It looks so cool from the pics that TBH it was one of the things I was most excited about on our entire trip, lol. We were the first ones there when they opened a bit after noon, and at first when we walked up I got afraid that we were just intruding into someone's front yard. Turns out we basically were in someone's front yard, since the restaurant and house are on the same property. ;) The place is run by 3 generations of women as far as we could gather - a mom (Monika herself?), her daughter, and the grandma. They serve an awesome meat and cheese and bread platter, with a really good selection of home-brewed beers AND homemade sodas! Of course, we had to try one of each (1 beer and 1 soda), and they were both amazing. We also got the meat and cheese platter, which I think is called the Farmer's Plate or Platter. Then as many others have mentioned in these reviews, the daughter took us (+ the 2 other couples that were there) on a tour of not only their house and 2 kitchens, but also the barn where her grandma has an entire museum's worth of old equipment and items displayed, from irons to sewing machines to tools to embroidery and china/painted dishes. We met the grandma too. Suffice it to say I was excited as hell about this place and it totally exceeded my expectations. Such an awesome experience and the scenery where it's located is GORGEOUS....
Read moreI found this little gem on Google maps on my first day in Bled while looking for an alternative to the expensive places down by the lake. It's a lovely little family run place with only 4 or 5 tables.
The food menu offers a simple choice - a selection of cured meats and cheeses, or just the cheeses - both served with a good portion of bread and some pickles. I opted for the meat and cheese plate, and it definitely didn't disappoint. There's more than enough food to satisfy even a large appetite, and it was all very tasty (the smoked bacon pâté was particularly good).
There's also a great selection of interesting beers and spirits that are all homemade by the owners. At €14 for the food, and €3.50-5 for the beers, you really can't go wrong here.
The service was also great. Very friendly, and very informative about the food and drinks they offer. They'll also give you a little tour of the farmhouse after your meal. Not as an attempt to sell you anything, but just because they're genuinely keen to share their little bit of Slovenian culture with visitors, so you should definitely accept the offer if you have time.
If I'm ever in Bled again, I'll definitely be...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find, a pub with home-brewed beer in a farmhouse hidden away in a mountain village. The host, Monika, runs the place with her mother and daughter. They have several beers on offer although when we visited they had only the ginger and raspberry ales left - so I had to try them both. They were delicious. We went for the plate of local cheeses with bread. Monika told us the story of each cheese and each beer. There are homemade soft drinks, too. The place has a rustic charm and, after you finish your meal the hosts invite you into their old house which, although looks fairly modern on the outside, dates back to 1774. There is the original black kitchen, so called because of a lot of smoking of food goes on in there. Then there is the white kitchen which is a traditional Slovenian kitchen were grandma was doing the dishes and showing off some of her amazing embroidery. This is such a wonderful place that it is well worth making the effort to walk the short 15 mins diversion from Lake Bled to step back in time and be treated to amazing food and drinks. It is not expensive but you need to have cash with you. They don't take...
