We ate at this restaurant in Lake Bled, and while the location was incredibly beautiful and the food was excellent, the experience we had was severely tainted by our waiter. He was fine up until we finished our meal and asked to box our food. Without offering me the chance to box my food myself, the waiter grabbed my plate, and when another member of our party requested to box her own food, he made a dismissive face and gesture towards her and turned away.

Not two seconds later, the waiter bumped into another customer and spilled the plate full of my leftover food (I ordered the grill plate, so that I could have half of my food the next day) all over the restaurant floor.

He returned to our table a few minutes later and said that the kitchen had remade my food, but when I checked the box, I was missing half a sausage, horseradish, and bread that had previously been on my plate. When I asked about the sausage (it was really good), and if I could get a replacement for the piece that he had dumped on the floor, he shook his head, smiled, and said “no.” I thought he was kidding, but he said “no” again, and then proceeded to tell us that he had picked up the food from the floor himself, given the plate to the chef, and that they replaced everything that was there. I pointed out that bread had also been on the plate, and he laughed and condescendingly told me that if I wanted bread, I could have it. He turned to go without so much as an apology and we never spoke to him again.

After our waiter essentially called me a liar to my face, we spoke to another waiter, who was nicer, but still would not replace the half sausage or horseradish that our previous waiter spilled all over the floor. I asked for both, and instead, the other waiter offered us a free piece of cake. It was a nice offer, and we accepted it (to go), but it was kind of missing the point. Our experience was no longer enjoyable in the restaurant due to our waiter’s behavior, so we took the offer to go and left early, cutting our last night in town short.

I’m not sure why the staff felt the need to sully an otherwise very nice evening over a half piece of sausage, which the waiter was responsible for dropping. At the end of the day, it wasn’t about the sausage, it was about the waiter’s snide, contemptuous, and condescending bad attitude. I can’t imagine dropping a customer’s food all over the floor, and then calling them a liar and refusing to replace what I’d dropped.

I know this review won’t matter in the eyes of most people reading. I just wanted to express our feelings directly to the restaurant. It’s very sad that an experience we looked forward to for so long was so badly tainted by the waiter’s attitude and response to his mistake. We planned this trip for a year and this was our last night in Slovenia. It’s very unfortunate that a waiter’s pride, poor service, and contempt for the customer...

Lovely stay - Very welcoming and accommodating staff nothing was too much to ask. Breakfast options were vast and varied, fresh warm bread every morning - gluten free and also vegan options available - the staff knew my husband liked a big mug of tea and would bring him a mug specially for him every morning which I thought was such a lovely touch.||The rooms are clean airy and newly decorated in a lovely style and also smelt lovely - we had daily maid service who gave clean towels and made the bed. Yes the rooms are small and also the shower I'm 5ft and found my self banging my elbows on the shower door the first few times! With two suitcases there really wasn't any more wriggle room - but what I will say is the view over looking the lake makes up for all of that - it was so lovely to look out every morning you felt like you were on the lake its self - good AC and double glazed windows - a suggestion for the room would be if there could be some hooks added just so you can hang things up and also a few small shelves to put things on I think this would really help with the layout of the room and make things more accessible.||location wise there is a restaurant attached to the Hotel - we ate here once - lovely view and attentive staff serving a range of different dishes - you even get a complimentary glass of bubbles which was a lovely touch - its around a 20min walk in the main town of Bled where there are more restaurants and bars - there is a free shuttle bus that comes around but we found this unreliable and found it easier to walk - right outside you can get a row boat or gondola boat over to the lake bled island or just along for that chill out on the bank and go to a lovely dip in the beautiful lake bled - overall we had a beautiful stay and would recommended to anyone thinking of going...

I mean, the food is okay, it’s not great. The soup was tasty, but the main course: the salad especially on the sausage was off, I couldn’t eat it. But what was the most bad experience was the service there. The waiters there are rude! They are so rushed and want you to finish and leave as quickly as possible, and if people just want to have a drink there they ask you to leave because they want to leave the tables available for people who eat. But what I experienced first hand tho, was that a woman in front of me was just done eating and wasn’t finished with her drink yet, she got up to the bathroom (i think), her bag was still on the chair, and then a waiter seated 2 new people on her table and cleaned her table with her drink. When the woman came back she was shocked and told the waiter that she wasn’t done yet, the waiter gave her the drink to let her stand and drink. She was dissapointed, I could see it in her face, but didn’t want to say anything. So I’ll say it for her, the service was fooking bad! This restaurant doesn’t even deserve 1 star, the only thing going for this restaurant is the view. But there are far better restaurants out there with the same or even better view, better service and better food. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant even if it was the only one open.

Summary: Beautifully decorated, tasty breakfast, strong WiFi, outstanding views, kind staff, comfy bed, great water pressure! Details: ✅ We arrived late for check in and they were gracious and welcoming ✅ fast WiFi, with the password clearly stated on the front desk ✅ comfy beds and pillows ✅ stunning, picturesque views of the lake from the front facing rooms. Robust blinds to keep out the light at night time. ✅ breakfast was lovely- not too much offered, but just enough of each breakfast type: cooked bacon, scrambled egg and mini sausages, cheeses, deli meats, boiled eggs, bread, smoked salmon, cereals, fruit etc. the coffee was great too. ✅ kind staff ✅ only an 18 minute walk along the lake front to the centre ✅ great water pressure! ❌ a tiny thing, but I stubbed my toes on the sharp corner of the shower, which is right as you step inside the bathroom, about five times during my stay! Ouch! Can this have a guard over it? ❌ the room was quite small, but was all we needed! If you are a very tall or generally bigger person, it may feel a bit tight with two people. 🚤 Pletna Boats to Bled island depart from right outside the hotel, though this may just be during high season. We came in December and got an electric boat from the other side of the lake for 14€

During my visit to Bled, I had the pleasure of dining at **Starkl Restaurant**, a lakeside spot that offers not only delicious food but also stunning views of Lake Bled. The serene setting, paired with a warm and welcoming ambiance, makes Starkl a must-visit. The service was excellent—friendly and attentive, with the staff eager to ensure an enjoyable experience. I opted for a traditional Slovenian soup to start, which was hearty and comforting, with rich, authentic flavors that felt like a warm embrace on a cool day. For the main course, I chose one of Starkl’s wood-fired pizzas, and it did not disappoint. The crust was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, topped with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The balance of flavors was spot on, and the portion was generous. Although I didn’t indulge in dessert this time, the sight of the famous Bled cream cake on other tables looked tempting enough to warrant a return visit. Starkl is a wonderful blend of tradition and modernity, offering something for everyone—from local specialties to universally loved dishes like pizza. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual meal or a special evening, Starkl promises a memorable experience in the heart of Bled.
