Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in Bled

Really disappointing visit. I rarely leave reviews but I think people deserve to be warned about this place because it really doesn’t live up to its reviews. I think things must have gone downhill here recently. We’d read the reviews and were really excited to try the restaurant. One of our starters was good, the rest of the food was poor, verging on disastrous. My main was a €30 veal steak that genuinely looked, tasted and had the texture of the sole of someone’s shoe. I couldn’t cut through it, let alone chew or swallow it. I let the waitress know and she immediately said “I’ll get you a better knife!”… I explained I couldn’t chew it and couldn’t eat it. She said it’s always “like that” and sorry I didn’t like it. No offer to cook another piece or even offer me something different to eat. I sat with the whole plate of food untouched until she came to clear the plates, saying nothing else. I was probably more annoyed at the customer service than the food in the end. My partner had the local river trout, again, not cheap at €30 and he said it was tasteless. It’s such a shame because it’s the kind of place I’d return to again and again given the setting if the food was decent. I’d avoid this place if you want to stay happy on your travels...

We had slightly different expectations when we booked this place - hoping for a bit more of a romantic experience based on the reviews we read. That could be because it was raining and the terrace was closed, which from the pictures looks very nice. The inside is probably a nicer place for lunch, being quite casual, playing pop music and a bit center parcs style. In that sense i can see how it would be great for families. Service was great, a really nice waiter with good wine recommendations. We had the two soups as starters, which were seriously fantastic. The main dishes were ok and we felt they were overpriced for the quality. Especially the vegetarian option (the beetroot medallions) was not so great - could taste the raw flour. All in all, i give four stars because of the service, nice wines and the soups we had - and the potential for nice atmosphere on a sunny day on...

If we could rate this place with 6 stars, we would definitely do it! We had a wonderful evening in a unique place with plenty of nice plants, even on the very tables we ate at. The food was amazing and worth it a remarkable gastronomic experience: the incomparable taste of fresh local products combined with the savoir faire of the cooks was extremely pleasant. The waiter served us with warmth, attention and care and he shared with us his passion for slovenian wines making us discover a fantastic bottle of white Bela Caroline which accompanied effectively our wonderful meal.
