We arrived just after 6pm. Door was open to the street and two women at 1 table. Nobody else in the restaurant . We waited a couple of minutes for someone to come with the menu. We looked it over and decided to order a 4 piece dish and two 8 piece sushi rolls. We waited for the Waiter to return and take our order and bring two soft drinks.
Then we waited, No other customers other than the 2 young women who kept going outside to smoke and the smoke was drifting into the restaurant as the door was wide open. Not what I would expect obviously. We waited at least 35 minutes during which time 2 people came in briefly to the counter then left. One of the women customers came over to ask for a cigarette and was advised we don't smoke. She went back to her table. Those 2 women went outside to smoke and came back in numerous times while were there
Our food finally arrived and it was not as ordered. The 4 piece dish was correct but we only were given 4 pieces of each of the two 8 piece California rolls we ordered. We did not say anything at this time as we just wanted to eat. The sushi dishes were tasty and very fresh. Once we ate those we decided we did not want to order anything else as this took so long to get. Also the actions of the other 2 women was very strange.
I asked the waiter to bring a menu back just so I could confirm that the two 8 piecd sushi we ordered were, in fact 8 piece. They were. I then asked the waiter why he only brought 4 pieces of each sushi when they said 8 pieces on the menu. He said " I thought you only wanted 4 of each as we have that option". I advised I had wanted 8 of each as on the menu. He advised he was only charging half the price and the amount he charged on the bill was just slightly over half. We paid our bill and left. No tip.
I don't know what is or was going on there last night but I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant. It is too bad because the food we had...
Read moreWent to this place due to the very good reviews they’ve received on google.
Arrived 15 minutes after opening, the food took 1 hour and 15 minutes to arrive and 25 minutes to receive a beer, while we were the only customers at the place.
Either way, the food arrived and all the orders are mixed together and half of the items ordered were missing, as the rice was very overcooked, nothing tasted fresh and was lower than mediocre.
We asked why everything so long time the waitress just told us they’re “cleaning the kitchen because they just opened” and we asked here why she couldn’t have given us a heads up the answer was “I don’t know”
Seeing their reviews in hindsight their Uber eats ratings are way worse makes me suspicious that they’re using bots with their google reviews to boost their publicity.
By far my worst food experience I’ve had in Cape Town would have given this place a 0/5 if it was possible.
EDIT :
Since I received a comment from the restaurant claiming I was not there, I have now attached the transaction from my bank where it shows I purchased the food, the same day this review was created.
I have also spent the first 3 days after the visit in the bed due to food poisoning. Now I cant prove that it was from this place but I did not eat anything else that day. I suppose since me and my buddy were the first customers for the day we got the fish from the...
Read moreI live a couple of minutes walk away and would be here regularly if they could match the clearly good quality food with instilling confidence on dietary requirements. Theres no separate vegan menu, no guarantee that different tools are used for vegetarian food, and uncertain if their tempura/pickled ginger/soy is vegan or not; these can sometimes have some fish or egg in. With a bit more improvement in this area, then I'd definitely want to support this cool independent restaurant but at the moment still a little bit more to do for vegan customer.
Edit - amended to five star as brilliant response from owner and excited...
