The Olive Bistro — Restaurant in Durbanville

This is ultimately one of the best places that I have experienced in a long time; be it for an early lunch, dinner, a beer - or for those who prefer not to drink (they offer a vast non-alcoholic selection); or be it an outing for oneself or a catch-up with your friends, this is a highlight not to be missed when visiting the Durbanville area.

Offering a comfortable and relaxed environment with both indoor, patio and outside seating – it’s hard not to find a spot that makes you feel at home.

On arrival you’re always greeted by smiling staff members and a manager who is generally always at the entrance and greatly hands-on when it comes to operating with customers (something one seldom sees these days).

The choice of sitting inside with a classic café atmosphere and an iconic 70’s Volkswagen Combi on display leaves one with a feeling of nostalgia, but also allows for a more relaxed office coffee or business light lunch opportunity. The outside area gives you an option for patio seating which is non-smoking, or you can sit under the shaded tree area, which gives you a “little corner of heaven” where you feel you’re not out-and-about, but more in your own garden setting.

Service never seems to be a problem here, as staff always have a welcoming aura about them and constantly check on you to see how you are doing (not in an over-bearing way, but just in the ‘right amount’ kind of way) and leave you no opportunity to go wanting whilst enjoying your time.

Food is always incredible, and the Kitchen Staff have the timing down to a ‘T’. High quality, which is always plated hot, food more than you bargained for at great prices which are absolutely tasty, and quicker than most places one dines at. Thus, again to mention, it is the perfect spot for a work meeting should you be on a tight schedule.

They open at 11h00 each day and close at 23h00 Monday to Saturday, with Sunday being the exception and close at 17h00.

amazing atmosphere, perfect for a sunny mid day outing, they have cozy indoor seating and a delightful outdoor seating area, the trees and umbrella gives the outdoor area a nice cool temperature even on the hottest of days, they have smoking and non-smoking outdoor area aswell as a grass patch for kids to play on while being visable from all seating areas, they also have live music on specific days, while the music being played on the speaker is calm yet accommodating and only adds to the experience.

the service was fast eventhough the place was almost fully booked, the waitresses were friendly and service were fast, and was able to cancle a drink while it was being poured which was a nice touch

The food on the other hand was average to that which you would find at a similar establishment, I give a high rating on the food not for the quality but the fittingness of the price which was well below that which you would normally pay, for me the dough used around the onion rings and popper was not apealing or appetizing but comes down to personal preference. The pizzas are really nice and would recommend them for a first visit.

Based on the reviews, we decided to book a table for Saturday, January 11, warm welcome by friendly staff. Ordered drinks and the waitress was swift with the drinks. My wife ordered two starter as mains, calamari & Figados, my daughter & I ordered the Pork Belly, my Son the 400g espetada which he requested rare, my daughter's friend ordered burger with bacon & avocado, not sure the name. All dishes arrived very quicky. The espetada was over cooked ( white) inside and called the waitress apologised , shortly thereafter the manageress came and explained the espetada is rare obviously has no clue, the the owner came ( I think it was the owner) he said the same after some words my son decided to rather order a pizza, he ( he the manager said well I still have to pay for the espetada, I said fine but bring the espetada with the intention to take it home for my dogs. They returned the dish and clearly it was not the same skewer, my son pulled off one piece and cut it open, surprise it was rare as ordered the last two pieces were dry ( white) .....the pork belly was tasty on the outside, inner meat was dry and full of garlic, calamari my wife said was of poor standard figados was good same...
