A Hidden Gem in Durbanville: A Delightful Lunch Experience at Chocolat Bistro. Nestled in the heart of Durbanville, Cape Town, Chocolat Bistro is a place where French opulence meets the charm of a local neighborhood eatery. As you step inside, you're immediately transported to a Parisian dream—a world where delicate chandeliers twinkle softly, the scent of freshly baked pastries wafts through the air, and the gentle melodies of French music play in the background. Our group, on a mission to explore the culinary delights of Cape Town, stumbled upon this hidden gem to celebrate my sister's birthday. What we thought would be a routine lunch outing turned into an extraordinary experience, thanks to the warm hospitality and a surprising twist. Upon arrival, we were met with a slight hiccup—our reservation had somehow been lost. Naturally, our spirits dipped for a moment, but they were quickly lifted by Martin, the manager, who stepped in with such grace and kindness. His eyes, though showing signs of a busy day, sparkled with a genuine desire to make things right. With an air of calm and a heart full of warmth, Martin assured us that our lunch would be on the house, turning a simple meal into a cherished memory. As we settled into our seats, Juliet, our waitress, arrived with a smile that could light up any room. I couldn’t help but smile at the coincidence—Juliet, in a place that felt like it was plucked straight from a classic love story. The irony wasn’t lost on us, and it added a delightful layer of whimsy to our experience. The meal that followed was nothing short of tantalizing. Each dish was crafted with care, from the richly flavored mains to the delicate desserts that melted in our mouths. And the cocktails—oh, the cocktails! They were the perfect blend of refreshment and indulgence, adding a festive flair to our celebration. Chocolat Bistro isn’t just about food; it’s about savoring the moments, the laughter, and the companionship that comes with it. But what truly sets Chocolat Bistro apart is the attention to detail. They offer a high tea that I’ve heard is nothing short of extraordinary—definitely something I plan to return for. They even cater to our four-legged friends with a special doggy menu, and children are equally spoiled with a dedicated menu that’s sure to delight the little ones. The costs at Chocolat Bistro are reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the ambiance. While it’s not the cheapest spot in town, the experience is worth every penny. Just be sure to book in advance if you’re planning to enjoy their high tea, as it’s quite popular and spaces fill up quickly. As we reflected on our experience, a sense of gratitude washed over me. Life often rushes us past the small joys, the little pleasures that make it all worthwhile. But on this day, at Chocolat Bistro, we allowed ourselves to slow down, to savor, to celebrate. Martin, with his beautiful soul, turned what could have been a disappointment into a wonderful surprise, and for that, I’m truly thankful. To Martin, thank you for making my sister’s birthday a day to remember, for your kindness, and for showing that even in the midst of a busy day, there is always room for generosity. Chocolat Bistro, with its classic Parisian atmosphere and impeccable service, has earned a special place in our hearts. It’s a little hidden gem in Durbanville that we’re all too eager to visit again. So, if you’re ever in the area, do yourself a favor—take a break from the hustle and bustle, and let yourself be charmed by this delightful bistro. Because sometimes, the best moments in life are found in the most...

…..We came here to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary. Never before had we had any encounters with the “CHOCOLAT BISTRO” but we are very familiar with this particular venue address which we use to frequent on a regular bases when another restaurant was trading here. It real-lii is very French especial-lii when you make your entree and you are greeted by the “MONA-LISA” at the foot of the bar-counter it transports you immediate-lii to the “LUVRE MUSEUM” in Paris. The restaurant is intense-lii decorated with lots of picture-frames, various ornaments and statues. They have seating outside in-front and at the back of the restaurant under large umbrellas and under the big “Itchy-Ball” tree. The “MENU BOOK” is gloss & snazzy-lii made up of 10 pages offering loads of various delicious-delights. From breakfast meals, light-lunches, make up your own Mezze-Plate for 2 people sharing, pizzas, salads, starters, a long-list of Main-meals, desserts and petit-lii individual-lii baked cakes, you can even preorder a whole cake. We started off by ordering a bottle of LABORIE BRUT Rose’ @ R 295 per bottle. This gorgeous pale pink bubbly never fails to tingle the taste-buds. Our STARTERS: - 1. Jalapeno Poppers wrapped in bacon, with cream cheese & sweet-chilli sauce @ R 95 2. Snails with garlic-butter & grilled parmesan shavings @ R 98 (this serving of escargots was so different, this serving was seven snails! Right in the middle of the dish was a “mother of a snail” so succulent and taste-ii. All our starters were delicious & fresh. MAINS: - 1. Seared Norwegian Salmon on mashed potatoes & vegetables. 2. Lamb Shank served with roasted vegetables & truffle oil mash potatoes. The foods were insidious-lii delicious and scrumptious prompting us to ask for doggie-bags. We were so full and satisfied that we skipped dessert and rather choose to order cakes for take-outs. 1 x Petit Red Velvet Cake with cheesecake layer covered in cream cheese icing. 1 x Petit Rich Chocolate Cake. 1 x Petit Fig & Pecan Baked Cheesecake all @ R 69 each. We real-lii had a memorable time here with the ambiance being that of laid-back and be pampered in a very classy place by waiters who want to serve you with professionalism. Our waiter was “ADMIRE” and we admired him for his kiff way he attended to us. We have already chosen a date for our next visit here for breakfast. NB! They have parking at the back of the restaurant on a first come first get it bases. Toilets are Uni-sex and very clean. We high-lii recommend a visit to this elegant venue….. We did forget to ask if they have...

It is truly rare that I would give a full 5 stars to any place, let alone a restaurant. However, the occasion in which my girlfriend and I were in, that being our Anniversary, this experience overall was extremely pleasant, and everything came together beautifully.

Firstly, the service was excellent. Vernon (Night Manager), you are an absolute gentleman and customer centric individual and your delivery of service was beyond approach. Our waiter, Daniel, young and vibrant and was spot on with his service as well.

The ambience of the restaurant is so beautiful, and aesthetically inviting. I know this restaurant would thrive in the day, but at night, it simply sparkles. We were blessed with great weather and so got to enjoy our dinner outside on the patio in the front. The area at the back was beautiful as well. This place is well kept, and the standards are set extremely high without costing you more than any other quality restaurant would.

My girlfriend had the pork belly (R210) and I had the lamb shank (R265). Along with our delicious cocktails, and other drinks, this evening was magnificent. The food was an absolute delight and of the highest quality.

For a date night, or a day time lunch, this place is simply superb. I would recommend Chocolat to anyone, especially those looking for a romantic, yet intimate setting. Well done to the owners, you have truly established a gold mine, and your staff are excellent. If I could have tried the dessert, I would have but the food filled us right up.

Superb, thank you Vernon and Daniel for making our special night even...

Second visit in a month. So it deserves a mention. Chocolat bistro in durbanville. I actually meant to write a review after my first visit but completely forgot. So after todays wonderful lunch I thought I’d rectify that. What a gem. This bistro is really a must visit in the Northern suburbs. Nestled under beautiful trees and a lovely courtyard this spot is perfect for our upcoming hot summer days. Lovely menu with a lot of variety and options for all. We had butter chicken curry, ossobuco and ribs. Meals were packed with flavour, very generously sized and we all agreed when we return we’d order the exact same dishes. All the food coming out the kitchen looked delicious, beautifully presented and smelt divine! They also have a clay pizza oven in the courtyard. All meals are reasonably priced. On my first visit it was a cold grey day in Cape Town so we sat inside. We tried the pork belly which was equally as delicious along with a few shared starters. Sitting inside feels like you’ve been transported to a different world surrounded by beautiful pieces of furniture and decor. Sadly no room for cake - was so tempted to take a slice home, but thought I’d hold out to go back for tea and cake sometime. They also sell whole cakes that look life changing. I’ll be ordering one for my next birthday. All the Staff were all extremely friendly, polite and professional. There’s also a beautiful vintage & antique shop called Plan B - so many treasures in there. We will be back soon.
