I don't usually do reviews but this one I had to. My boyfriend and I decided to do some few restaurants along the beachfront and I really hate to say that if you are thinking of visiting this establishment - think trice! I have never came across a place that is clouded behind the walls of discrimination and disservice such as this one. My boo and I bought a round of drinks and the manager told us that we were not allowed to display any kind of affection such as holding hands or kissing because they are family owned restaurant and uphold parental guidance principles. To my surprise everybody was smoking and drinking a 500ml draught which still makes me wonder what guidance are the talking about. The owner came up to us with a bill at no request and asked us to settle the vacate. To my surprise - how come at "Hello it's me" we never even received any kind of this nonsense yet we stayed there longer and our waitress "Tracey" was so friendly but right across the road we recieved such pathetic service. It's bizzare that a seasonal city like PE still has establishments like this clouded behind the walls of absolute racism. All the staff white and it makes me wonder if do you guys even adhere to employment equity act. I tell you twice - shame on you!

Barney's Tavern though is easy on the tongue. It is a great place to have a drink and a bite and has a beautiful sea view. The service is friendly as you got used to over the years visiting PE, now Gqeberha. A special mention must go to the friendly staff. It is also not everyday that when you loose valuables or forget it at a place, that you will get it back. So thank you for all the staff for keeping and returning the laptop we forgot. There is enough variety of food to choose from the menu and keep yourself up to date with the buy one get one pizza free. Cheers on Barney's Tavern. See you soon.

The only reason why I’m giving it one star is because you can’t give zero stars. We were told we can’t order anything but breakfast before 11 am as the kitchen are very busy yet another table were allowed to do this. The manager tried to explain that the waiter was “new” but what’s good for the one is good for the other. If they could make an exception for the one why not for us? Was the kitchen staff also “new”???? When I complained our food took so long we might as well have ordered lunch. The service was crapy and the food is average. The only plus point is they sell Guinness which was very very fresh. Other than that I will not return to this tavern.

Went there for a lunch and had a drink with some Nachos....they were tasty. The vibe was also up and kicking. The outside area was packed and live music was jamming. We decided to make a booking for the evening as well and to sit outside where the party was. This was also recommended by the staff.

As we arrived for our evening booking it went from up to down. There were only 4 tables outside where the live music was....which didn't bother us.....but we expected the place to be as packed as the afternoon as they recommendedto make a booking to secure a table. There was even a table booked for 20 people that never arrived.....wonder why 🤔. Nonetheless, we decided to make the best of it. Ordered some drinks and a starter. The one-man-band was amazing.....sang great songs that everyone (the 4 tables) loved. The starter was really tasty. We ordered our mains and waited nearly 40min. The pizza my husband order was so burned and dried out. My Chicken Cordon Bleu and veggies were ice cold and asked I them to please heat my food. I waited another 10min as my husband had to eat his pizza before he gets cold pizza on top of it being dried out already. My food arrived and this time they made sure it was steaming that my husband even commented that they made sure they overheat the food as he could see the steam from the plate. The crust/crumbs from the Chicken Cordon Bleu was so overcooked by now that it crumbled once I stuck my fork in it. I basically only had some of the chicken itself and some veggies. By this time I was so disgusted. But.....the food was not the cherry on top. I had to ask another waitress after 5-7min of arrival to please reheat my food as our waitress went MIA. The band guy sang his last song at 21:00 and then all the other tables left and we were the only ones as we were still eating. Then all of a sudden all the waitresses started cleaning up and putting chairs on the tables around us at 21:10. This was kind of rude as we were still busy eating and the closing times on the internet shows 12:00am. Did they do this to make sure we need to gulp our food down as they want to go home???? Around 21:20 we decided to leave as we really didn't enjoy the food, atmosphere and rudeness of staff behavior. On our way out to the front door some staff members were horseplaying and slightly bumped into my husband. I'm sorry....but these types of behaviors in a restaurant really needs to be addressed. Best the owner/managers do proper training on restaurant...

The place looked good but only caters to persons of 1 ethnicity, I entered was told to sit anywhere whilst other guests where taken to tables, was not given a menu, I stopped a waiter going passed me after 20mins and ordered a drink and asked for a menu, after 10mins she returned in shock as she asked another waiter to provide what I had asked for but was not served, eventually I got a menu and the drink and placed a food order which took 30mins longer than most of the other guests I saw order and was ok in taste, average at best, the chips were cold and oily...I see everyone else having great service and good food I think it was particularly geared to me specifically as I was the only person present of a different ethnicity, I dont normally give a bad review but unfortunately the experience was one that I would like to let others know about so that they dont...
