Although the Paradiso has one of the really nice views over the bowl especially at day, but also at night you always have to fear a bit of wind from the attached table mountain. For those who love to sit outside even in wintertime which gives a special feeling and enjoyment during a holiday trip - you will be dissapointed. Even with medium temperatures and a bit of wind (well thats a personal interpretation) the wonderfully green terrace is not available - you are harshly "invited" to sit inside . But who wants that when you have that view. Even there are two small balconies /terraces overlooking the yard of the restaurant are not open - and there are not heaters outside - what you may ask - yes which is a standard in regions like France or Spain for the cooler days - no one gives you the opportunity to enjoy to the full impression of this truly capetownian location. (don t come with the fact that SA is still in trasition from 3rd to industrialzed world - Capetown markets itself as modern and cosmopolitain - well ... there is a lot of interpretational room for that) However the service is acceptable and the food meets the expectations you have, when you look at the menue. The selection of wine - we are in South Africa the wines are absolutley good ... the choice is big... Cafe paradiso - yes - its worth to walk up all the way from Long street, along all the shops boutiques and galeries ... to sit down and enjoy from up here the view and the food - the experience could be more forfilled if the managment pics up some ideas of outside sitting and...
Read moreWe visited the restaurant yesterday and it was very disappointing! First of all most of the table linnen was old and full of holes and everything else looked very old and not maintained. The staff is really uninterested it take ages they come to you even only 3 tables were occupied. Your kids can make their own pizza or dessert, which is a great and lovely idea, however the lady who guides the kids is very uninterested and it looks like she is not having fun at all in here job. She hangs agains the table waiting till the kids are done and not even trying to make something fun for them. When we finally got some of the waiters to make the order we asked if my wife could take the burrata when she might be pregnant(is this is pasteurized). The waiter responded irritated and said yeah I think so.. not sure at all. When we asked if he might take a look at the packaging to make sure it is safe he responded more irrritated and said ‘this is the cheese we use you can also leave it out’. We just ate the kids pizza our daughter made and then we left as soon as possible to another restaurant to have dinner for my wife and myself. Never again!
We think it was a great place in the past and the idea kids can make their own pizza or dessert is very nice. However it is very dated now and the staff is very uninterested and...
Read moreThis was our third and definitely last visit to Cafe Paradiso. During our former 2 visits we already noted that the service was slow and not very friendly. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that cleanliness was not a top priority. The worn-out and threadbare tablecloths did little to enhance the ambiance, giving the entire place a shabby feel. We sat next to a hedge under which was garbage. Overall it was not well-kept.
The lack of friendliness from the staff further dampened our experience. Perhaps the most frustrating part of the evening was the very long wait for our drinks. I caught the servers attention in the hope that she would remember our drinks, but that was not the case. A waiter walked by our table and didn't notice that it was empty. Nearly 30 minutes elapsed before the food was served and we still had no drinks.
Given the cumulative disappointments, we decided to cut our losses. Just as we were leaving they were going to serve the food, but that we would have eaten without drinks.
Cafe Paradiso would benefit greatly from some much-needed improvements to regain the trust and satisfaction of its patrons.
I am giving 2 stars as the food...
