From braaing and fine dining comes Biru, homemade food with extraordinary ingredients away from home.
The food is a tricky one, seeing as we had to cook it ourselves we gave it full marks because we are bloody amazing cooks. All kidding aside, the ingredients were incredibly fresh, there wasn't a spinach leaf or a mushroom that seemed a bit old. Oh, and the Wagyu beef was absolute perfection. It doesn't stop there folks, the salmon sashimi is a definite must for a starter and always ask about dessert as they have a lot of dishes that are not on the menu, for instance, their pannacotta which is just top notch!
Biru made it feel as if you had your own personal waiter waiting on you hand and foot. Never making you wait, always helpful, very friendly and oh so attentive. Even though Biru is a place where you braai your own food, it doesn't mean you have to. If you get tired or just feel like enjoying a relaxing evening, your waiter will take over the cooking duties.
The restaurant was very classy as it was the entire third floor of the building, giving you access to a spacious living area and balconies that overlook Rivonia. Not good enough for you? Then how about sitting at the bar while enjoying the view? Or book your own private dining room for that special occasion. The music of the place was a bit of a buzzkill though, not that it needs to be vibey, but just not just Phil Collins the whole night. They mentioned that they do have live music on a Friday night - so that might be an option next time.
Regarding value, there is no such thing as cheap wagyu beef, and if there was you probably shouldn't be eating it. We feel that for the types of ingredients we got with the outstanding service that you truly do get proper bang for your buck at Biru.

Biru gets Two Tasty Tummies'...
Read moreVisited Biru a number of times during the past few years and although the food is good, the service gets more and more mediocre by the day. To call the waitress that attended to my party of 6 pathetic could actually be seen as a compliment.
We booked a private room to celebrate a friends birthday (mainly because we thought we’d receive better service than the last time we attended)
Waitress was disinterested from the get go, every request was made to seem like a chore to her. Food for half the party arrived almost an hour later since we ordered (the restaurant was NOT packed nor busy at all). Simple requests for cutlery or seasoning (no salt at all, left empty shakers at the table) seemed laborious
We did the meat platter for the Korean BBQ and when we asked for extra BBQ sauce (which we said we’d gladly pay for) she told us the ENTIRE restaurant has no sauce at all (weird given it was 7pm on a SATURDAY and the restaurant is literally Korean BBQ)
After complaining to the manager who changed the waitron and started serving us himself, food and the mysterious BBQ sauce started to magically appear.
Food remained good but suggest you go elsewhere if you do not enjoy entitled wait staff.

We had a Saturday lunch and as always, the owner and servers were welcoming and full of life. But this time around I must say I didn't quite enjoy the pork ramen. The broth tasted like it was made from an instant powder mix and the noodles were stuck together. Other than that, everything else we ordered was perfection. I have been to this restaurant a number of times and I never had anything to complain about. I understand that running a restaurant is no easy feat and we all make mistakes once in a while and I know once they see this review, this small errors will be rectified improvements will be made. Biru is one of the best Asian restaurants in the country and can't wait for my next visit.

Without a doubt one of the best Korean restaurants in Johannesburg. Food is always fresh and the taste is authentic. Beautiful landscape scenery. Loved the succulent pork ramen as well as the wagyu cuts. Best word to describe the food is "amazing". I highly recommend. Good for...
