Disappointed After Going Out of Our Way
We visited the restaurant between 5 and 6 pm and were told they were fully booked, we were offered outdoor tables. We were seated outside at a dirty we waited for the waiter to wipe it down. It was quite cold, and although a waiter eventually brought a heater, it was placed near unoccupied tables were we told they were reserved. We were left in the cold with only a fleece blanket that didnāt help much.
The starter was enjoyable, but they were out of mussels and prawns, which was disappointing. For mains, I ordered their signature penne pasta, and my partner had ribs and chips. Sadly, both were below averageāthe pasta lacked flavor, and the ribs were not tender.
Eventually, we requested a doggy bag because it was too uncomfortable to eat. Only then were we told they could āmake a planā for indoor. We donāt live in Johannesburg and went out of our way to eat here. For a R1000 meal, the overall experience just didnāt match the price or our...

We booked tbls a couple of days in advance, but unfortunately, it was taken by the owner friends... What is the point of booking then!? Food - eatable... There is nothing mind-blowing, except for the price :)) I wasn't impressed by the little filet for R.400, which even wasn't cooked right.. Atmosphere is ... confusing.. because of the tiny space in the restaurant, you literally, unfortunately, get involved in ppl business who's seats almost on your lap. I am not sure how I feel about this place, but I am definitely seeing better. Would I recommend !? hmmm. if you like variety of alcohol then definitely yes. Food, positive experience , and comfort I don't think so. Competition in this kind of service is huge.. I wish everyone to find their...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBottega is a Parkhurst stalwart that has been serving good Italian style food for years. I hadn't been for ages and was welcomed with the same cosy atmosphere. The menu is limited (and on presented on a chalk board), but what they do, the do well. Had a lovely artichoke starter and a pasta main which was just the right quantity and very flavourful. The draught beer was fresh and delicious. Pricing is premium, but food and service good quality -we didn't need to wait to be offered drinks etc. We just battled a bit to read the menu and needed to have the pasta's explained (details don't fit on the chalk board) and battled a bit hearing exactly what the waitress said. Nevertheless, still highly recommend and if you are into fancy whiskies on a night out, they have the most spectacular range...
