This was the first date night my wife and I have had, in a long time. So naturally we were looking forward to it.
Against my better judgement, we decided to go to George's Grill House in Bedford Centre. Aesthetically, this restaurant looks great but that's as far as it goes.
Upon entrance, we were greeted by a waiter and a trainee. They were both pleasant and did their best to assist.
We had a starter Tempura Rock Shrimp, which was fresh and good. The waiter offered us Still water, to which we said yes to.
The issue started once I had to order my main. I was very conflicted about what to order and was leaning toward the Sushi but for some reason the waiter kept pushing the Premium Dry Aged Steaks.
Mind you, these steaks are not cheap, they start at around R400. After being told how great the Steak was, I ordered their premium Rib Eye Steak (Cooked medium rare) with compound butter and Oven baked potatoes.
At this point, I was really looking forward to that Steak, as the waiter made it seem like it was being cooked by Gordon Ramsay himself.
To be honest, when the Steak arrived at my table, it looked great. After taking a few bites, I realized that this Steak was not only, not medium rare, it was rare (almost blue).
I don't like kicking up a fuss, so I decided to give them another chance and ask for them to rectify the issue. The manager came to my table, apologized and took the Steak to get cooked again. 5 minutes later, I received my Steak. Dry (compound butter completely dried up), fat cap hard and to my surprise, even more rare than before.
How they managed to cook a steak for a 2nd time and have it come out more rare, is perplexing. With the help of a good vet, they could have brought that cow back to life.
There is absolutely no excuse for their shocking dinner service. The restaurant had around 10 customers at 645pm on Saturday evening.
They charge premium prices for undercooked Steak. They had the audacity to charge me R65 for Valpre bottled water and then tried to bribe me with a free dessert, after they stuffed up my Steak for a second time.
I had better steaks at Spur and that says alot. Please have a long hard look at yourself, your service and your quality of food. You may be targeting high end customers but those customers are still using their hard earned money to eat at your establishment. Show some respect to them and dont treat your customers as cash cows.
I will never eat there again and never recommend that...
Read moreMediterranean inspired, yet there is something on the menu for all. Loving the new updated menu at George's Grill House at Bedford Square I usually visit the original branch in Linksfield. The new restaurant is quite open and spacious and really hospitable and inviting. Same simple decor, and comfortable.
Now I am usually a meat lover, and this place is suitably one of the best places to get a good piece of meat. However, with the menu changes we all ordered very different menu items to try.
For starters we had: •Angus beef Meatballs with an Ouzo and mibted Yoghurt Dip. This did need a bit more flavour as the Meatballs were a bit dry •Pork Grill sticks. Needs a sauce to go with it •Parmesan Cheese Crusted Roasted Bone marrow with garlic and rosemary served with a toasted bun. •Rock Shrimp Tempura Prawns with spicy mayo. Lovely spicy kick to it. •Soup of the day - Roasted Zucchini. Went down well
For Mains: •Prawn and Salmon Bowl, (Salmon, prawn, crispy rice, avo, Edamame beans, chopped nori, sesame seeds with a soy, Sriracha and honey dressing. •Crispy Angus Beef California roll.(shallow fried Angus beef, marinated in fresh ginger, with Sriracha mayo, Spring Onion, Cucumber and sweet Soy. •Prawn and Avo stack. (Lettuce and avo stack topped with Seared prawns drizzled with spicy Mayo. •Panko Prawns (Panko and sesame Crusted Prawns served with a dipping sauce) •Fillet and Fries. • Zucchini fries. This is also a must, love it when they make it this way with a sprinkle of salt.
My Prawn and Salmon bowl was so fresh and tasty, I loved the combination of flavours and textures. I'm such an Edamame bean fan lately.
I also tried a piece of the Angus sushi and its divine, something different on the palate.
We tried a variety off the drinks menu too. But 2 things don't change. Getting my Cosmopolitan and having a Greek Coffee to end off the meal. BUT first dessert.
They have also made a change to these options and a bigger list.
We shared the Crème brûlée 3 ways, Greek Yoghurt Cheesecake and the Chocolate Fondant.
Those mini brûlée's are a definite must try vanilla, berry and chocolate Caramel. The chocolate Caramel absolutely got my vote.
A big thanks to Cindy and Andre for their service and taking care of us during our...

I had an exceptional dining experience at George’s Grill House in Bedford Centre. I ordered the gyro lunch special with a French salad, and it was absolutely delicious. The general manager noticed me wince and immediately asked if everything was alright or if I needed assistance. I explained that in America, gyros are sliced off a rotating machine, and asked if the meat used here was the same. He explained that they don't use those machines here but assured me the meat is the same type. I found their method much better, as it makes more sense to me than leaving the meat out. The meal was very delicious, and I practically licked the plate clean. The portion sizes were perfect, leaving me feeling energized and happy.
Our waiter, Romeo, was incredibly professional and attentive. Despite being busy on the phone with three different people in America, ordering Uber Eats, and texting simultaneously, Romeo ensured my dining experience was comfortable. He efficiently removed any unneeded plates and made it easy for me to multitask, which I’m typically terrible at. I was impressed by the level of customer service and professionalism, usually reserved for higher-end restaurants.
I highly recommend George’s Grill House for their delicious specials and great atmosphere. It’s a must-visit spot for anyone looking to enjoy a fantastic meal with outstanding service....
