What an EXPERIENCE!!!!
We were on our way to another restaurant... they were closed due to load shedding. My husband and I decided to try O Pescador out as we have never been. We couldn't be more thankful for load shedding that evening.
A spot on the balcony, with lantern light and the view of the lagoon were the perfect setting for a date night. and what followed just made the night so much more special...
The waitress was so professional and polite. She answered all our questions with a genuine friendly tone. she gave us enough time to finish each course and seemed to just know exactly when we needed her... Wished I could remember her name. Great service.
The owner came around and we had such a nice chat with her. She shared their story with us and how they (her and her husband - the Chef) came to open O Pescador. They have been together for years and years and her love for her husband reflects in her face when she spoke about him... The type of love that one only read about in old novels...
The food is STUNNING!!!!!!! We had a steak starter and I have never had steak as soft. perfectly cooked through but still so soft. the sauce was gorgeous, wish I could have a bottled form of it to serve with my dinners at home... We had seafood for a main. pleasant doesn't even explain it. the fish was firm, cooked through but not over cooked and full of flavor. it was like eating a piece of heaven. the calamari was perfectly done. and the prawns was soft like butter. We chose to have a side of stir fried veg. Crunchy and still full of natural flavor, just the way I like it. We were served crème Brule and Hot chocolate for dessert. My husband already said I need to learn how to make it at home...

Read morePortuguese cooking normally places an emphasis in seafood dishes. Cannot say this for this restaurant being served with rather watery Mozambique prawns, a speciality of theirs which was totally overcooked and placed in a watery sauce. The cob fish served was tasteless, even when their special sauce was poured onto it. No bowls were given for the shells or bones which made us think we had to put them in the paper bags that knives and forks were given on the table. Rather awkward situation. world there but anyway. The oysters were served plainly with lemon on ice that was already half melted. To compound the matter i reserved a table for a special occasion way in advance and when we got there there wasnt even a table cloth placed over the sticky table we had to eat on. The food looks good but can definately not say the same for the taste or preparation thereof . At least they did accomodate us a table when said they were recommended by a guesthouse but we Ate at another restaurant in a similar vicinity and can definately say i will definately not visit at this restaurant again especially being served much better food and receiving much better...
Read moreThis is the best seafood I have ever had!!! My family and friends usually frequent Dias Tavern in Cape Town, well known for their excellent and fresh seafood so we have high standards and huge expectations! We specifically love Yellow Tail which is a line fish that is not always available in Cape Town let alone Knysna! It was succulent and firm, prepared beautifully with a slightly crisp crust......absolute perfection! We also ordered calamari and prawns....both dishes had the most divine sauces and spices. Best of all was the ambience of this gem of a restaurant which, I might add, accommodated us together with our darling Great Dane on the verandah on a beautiful summers evening! The service was exceptional and the personal attention from the owners was a really special touch! Thank you Laudette and family for an unforgettable dinner and truly special experience ! We shall certainly stop by again whenever we are in the...
