I haven't been to Durban in at least 30 years, needless to say it is heartbreaking to see what used to be a beautiful tourist destination laid to waste. I wasn't expecting much from Minitown but boy, was I pleasantly surprised! It is so cute! The place is spotlessly clean and well maintained, all the displays looked like they had been freshly painted and everything worked, trains trucks and aeroplanes all rumbling along perfectly. My daughter was absolutely enthralled by the trains! The displays are sponsored by various companies, thank you to them for keeping this landmark alive. If only the real city looked this good. The only fault I could find with Minitown was that the water in the little lake was dirty but considering that all of Durban's beaches were closed due to high EColi counts I guess this is just par for the course. If you ever do find yourself in the dump that is Durban, I highly recommend a visit to Minitown, it will be the highlight...

I must concede I have no idea what entrance fee is charged these days, but I would suggest the view from one of the apartments across the street allows one to see all that there is to see of Mini Town at better value for money. The display appears nice, clean, and well maintained from what I could see several stories up in the Montezuma building. The quaint urban display still imparts a sense...

Unfortunately Durban's 50 year old minitown hasn't been updated to reflect new developments in the city, such as the Moses Mabidha stadium, the ICC, uShaka Marine World, Gateway etc. and doesn't feature prominent old landmarks such asked North Beach, Greyville race course, St Emanuelle's cathedral, Grey St Mosque, Howard College.
City funding would go a long way to restore this attraction. Relying on sponsorships has left minitown subject to the whims and vagaries of the business community, resulting in some obscure and...
