Our recent guests were clear that this was one of the worst restaurants they had eaten at. If it wasn't for the beautiful weather and stunning venue on the water's edge, they said they would not have stayed to endure the terrible service and shockingly awful food. They were hardly acknowledged when they arrived at the restaurant...the staff looked miserable and when they asked for a table for 5, the waitress wanted to seat them at an awful table that had no shade from the hot sun (the staff were still putting up umbrellas.) They asked if they could put 2 tables together but the staff didn't bother to help them so they moved 2 benches together themselves. The Head waitress eventually arrived and was unfriendly to them and said they were only allowed to put 2 small tables together and made them feel unwelcome and it caused an embarrassing scene in front of other patrons. She then disappeared and went to the back of the restaurant and was never seen again or never even bothered to come back and see if they were happy . The menus were just plonked on the table and the drinks took over 20 minutes to be served. The 3 omelettes arrived hard and tough and the sliced cheese slice inside was still hard and un- melted. There was one sliced mushroom inside and some awful ham-processed meat. Each plate was "garnished" with a thick slice of hard tomato which was so unattractively thrown onto the plate. The waitresses kept disappearing and serving the other tables ad-hoc when they hadn't even finished serving their table. They even had to walk over and borrow condiments from another table as the waitresses ignored their waving hands asking for attention. There didn't seem to be enough waitresses and they were scattered all over and appeared totally disorganised with no supervisor in sight. Eventually the tea arrived in a pot, lukewarm and weak. The milk for the tea arrived 10 minutes later when the tea was cold. After the 3 of them had almost finished eating their awful omelettes, one other breakfast of French Toast arrived- stodgy bread cooked in minimum egg. After 5 minutes the last breakfast arrived with half-raw fried eggs (not the order) and this was after the rest of them at the table had finished eating their breakfasts...and only then did the basket of cold toast arrive with insufficient butter for the table.. It seems such a shame that this restaurant in the heart of beautiful Simon's Town cannot offer better service and food. We certainly won't be recommending it to any of our...
Read moreSo I received a response from Berthas's on Tuesday asking for my details,to try and resolve this issue.....one week later,no one has bothered to email or phone.....that gives one an idea of how they 'value' their clientele. Even more disappointed now😕 3rd time (in 5months) and seriously unlucky! Our experience went from great! to okay and decided to give it another try today and it was the worst ever! Sooo sooo disappointing! We came all the way from the Northern Suburbs and wanted to give two senior citizens a belated Mother's Day good dining experience but it was terrible on every level!
Eating out is expensive firstly, so when one goes out it has to be a memorable experience. We waited longer than usual to get someone to come and serve us,then when our order was brought, only two meals were served and we sat waiting for the other two meals. My husband had seafood pasta and it was a plate heaped full of creamy pasta and a few pieces of seafood on top??? This was taken away and there was only one diner who received their food and had to start eating otherwise it would have gone cold. The Manager came over and had a discussion with my husband, while we continued to wait for the other two meals. When these arrived, the sirloin was sinewy, tough and more fat than meat. My prawns which I raved about before, were overcooked.
Pudding arrived, crumble on top of the apple pie looked like it was a first attempt by an amateur cook.
The coffee was good and that is the only compliment that I can give that establishment today.
I don't think that our complaints,(which we really did not want to get in to because its embarrassing when you are trying to show people a good time) were handled very well. It was as if our patronage was not really valued. Be that as it may, the aim of my review is to let other diners be forewarned....
We will just have to go back to our old establishment Seaforth Restaurant when we are out in Simonstown again. Even during lockdown they managed to keep up their standard.
Utterly...
Read moreHad lunch here today, woman's day. I am sorry to be giving you some harsh feedback but it is because of the disappointment my guests and I had. For 4 of us who ordered the seafood pasta it was just disappointing. We finished our food as it was edible, but the food had no flavor just a bland sauce and my pasta was not fully cooked. It was almost cooked through but not quite done. Then the portions of seafood per plate was shocking. 2 prawns, 3 mussels and a tiny bit of squid. Barely enough fish for a plate of R135. The seafood curry ordered was also not enjoyable as the curry sauce was so horrible and the curry lacked spice and flavor. No sauce, a dry and tasteless curry. The chicken pasta was also not enjoyed by the person who ordered it. It was our first visit and we will not be back. Our waitress was also non existing as we ate and even after our meals were done our dirty plates just sat there for some time, with no one in site to clear our table. Even if we wanted another drink or add on we were sure not to get it. Our food took so long to prepare and for that we were given a plate of 6 mussels with the tasteless white sauce. The extra sauce was on request asked for my me, as my pasta was so dry. So even tho we had a lovely view from where we sat and tried to make the most of our time, the food was highly...
